I guess I didn't see the same movie the critics did: State of Play
« on: September 06, 2009, 01:07:20 AM »
I rented "State of Play" tonight and loved it. It was fast-paced, even for a drama, with enough twists and turns in the plot to keep me riveted to the screen.

Just for grins I read some online reviews of the movie, and was surprised at the number of critics who panned the movie. It wasn't as good as the British production, said one. Another thought it was a formula film.

I suppose I should know better. When the critics rave about a movie, it's usually one that puts me to sleep.

I haven't seen this particular film, but:

I agree completely.

I haven't heard of it.  Who is in it - what is it about?

Russell Crowe is the lead, and I think it's one of his best performances. He's a journalist who's an old college buddy of a congressman. Without going into too much detail, the death of the congressman's female aide starts a scandal story that keeps growing to the point where it's involving a huge DOD contractor. Lots of cloak and dagger, and very tense. It's one of the best movies I've seen in some time.
