Electrical Boxes
« on: September 25, 2009, 10:02:24 PM »
Howdy:

The electrical boxes for ceiling fixtures in my attic have no cover (house built in 1959)

I was wondering what I needed to do to make it safe to blow insulation in my attic.  I suspect open boxes with blown insulation on top is a Bad Idea.

A cover for them?  A great big tube that will prevent any insulation from landing on them?  Something else?

There are little metal plates that are supposed to cover the boxes. One can usually obtain them at Lowe's, Home Depot or most hardware stores that carry electrical stuff. I don't think some sort of tube meets the electrical code.

Same as making it safe to blow insulation anywhere else; have it tested, find out who else has been blowing it, etc.
