Suggestions from SASS / CAS types needed
« on: October 17, 2009, 01:55:11 AM »
I have a Tristar (Uberti) 4-3/4" Cattleman in .45 LC (brass frame, color case hardened receiver).  Bought a cartridge belt and single loop holster from Sportsman's Warehouse.  I can ring a 12" gong all day at 100 yds with the sights on it.  Really neat shooter.

During the same period I picked up an IAC Mdl. 99 12 GA coach gun.  That one has never been fired.

I'll be moving next year for law school and I won't be able to take half the guns I own.  Aside from the enjoyment of trying to outdraw the Cartwrights and Matt Dillon I don't "need" either, they don't fill any practical niche for me.

So, I've decided to violate my own principles and pass them along to someone who'd get some use from them.  I don't have a particular problem with owning guns I don't need or shoot, but owning guns I don't need or shoot that will sit in a safe thousands of miles away for 3 years or so doesn't seem to make any sense at all.

I was thinking someone just starting in SASS, or maybe someone who brings a lot of newbies into the sport and needs "loaners", might be a logical buyer.

I'm going to ask around locally and will check all the usual outlets but I figured I'd see if anyone here had any leads or ideas.

Why be a lawyer, when you can be The Law?  Find a wild west town overrun by mean hombres and in need of a good sheriff.  Set up shop.

Good luck finding a good home for them.

I own a former CAS Rossi 92 carbine and boy, was it worn/shot smooth.

I can't claim to be contemplating CAS or shooting enough to invite newbies.

Brass frame? For .45 Colt?  Peacemaker clone?

Are you sure it isn't a steel frame with a brass backstrap and trigger guard?

For a second I thought you has a Chinese 1897 and I was excited. :) One of those with the "trench gun" heat shield and an Enfield bayonet is tops on my "guns I don't need but really want" list.

Substitute a shorter bayonet and you'd have the perfect home defense shotgun.

I tried that for a very short while with my USMC 870Mk1.  The bayonet is now safely stored inside the nightstand.   :O

If tiki-wiki ever goes down and I need to stand guard as we load up the armored Suburban I'd pick an 1897 with full Enfield. :D Or a 590 for moar capacity...

I thought the grip frame was the "frame" and t'other was the receiver on a SAA et al?

Either way, yes, the grip frame is brass t'other is c-c-h steel.

I shot SASS about 15 years ago.  The guns I have, a Rossi in 357 and 45LC, two Ruger Blackhawks in 357, and a Ruger Besley in 45 LC plus an old Stevens 530 cut down to 20 inches.  I rarely shoot the guns but they are fun when I do.  I would hang on to them unless money was an issue.  Remember, BO is still lurking out there in the gun control business......chris3
