http://bayourenaissanceman.blogspot.com/2009/11/now-this-is-mind-boggling.html

Now this is mind-boggling!

Skydive from plane A into Plane B.  Note to self - be sure to avoid propeller.

Note that Plane B is diving directly towards the earth.

Not sure who is the bigger fool/has the bigger stones - skydivers or pilot of Plane B.

stay safe.

There was one like that in the old Air & Space IMAX film, except it wasn't planned. Wingwalker fell off his Stearman, pilot of, I think, the camera plane dove his plane to intercept and the wingwalker caught the struts of the wing.

Meh.  James Bond did it from a motorcycle to an unmanned plane.  Not impressed. ;)

The recieving airplane "diving directly towards the earth" is a Pilatus Porter PC-6.  Commonly used by skydiving operations, including the Golden Knights.

It is quite the machine.  Diving straight down is no biggie for it, and it can pull out of a vertical dive at unbelievably low altitudes.  Its also an amazing STOL aircraft....
One of my assignments in the 'Corps was to supplement the Golden Knights and HALO school at Laguna AAF, Az.  We set up our porta-ATC-tower to provide services over the airfield.  During jumps, the Golden Knights Porter would often be landing before the Knights first parachutists were on the ground.

want. It looks like an RC plane in the videos.

What's the pilot cranking on the ceiling of the plane near the end?
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

I remember watching a similar IMAX at a museum in GA...not the 8th AF museum but another one...Except I'm pretty sure it was a movie stunt. Maybe based off the real thing?

That, I don't know.  One of the resident Pileits is gonna have to answer that.

I believe, and it's been a while since I rode in a Pilatus, that the two cranks on the ceiling are flaps and trim.  Big one should be flaps, littl'un trim.  But that's rusty, almost 20yr old memories.

Never flown a Porter, but I'd bet Dogmush is correct.  I was guessing it was elevator trim to help in the pull-out.

Put that big prop into Beta (flat pitch, high drag) and it works great as a speed break.   =D

Looks like fun to me.  That and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaVoqPJUcx8
Even has cheesy music.  =D

Crankin' flaps. I need to re-watch Air America, Mel Gibson in his pre kill the British days, some pretty hairy STOL flying. You'll know I struck it rich if I ever post pics of my Maule on here. now that's STOL!
