Diaries of the Receipt-Warrior, Episode 4,321
« on: January 01, 2010, 01:10:56 PM »
Some of you think this is asinine, some of you agree...

I woke up this morning feeling grugly, so naturally I went to WalMart.  Got a toothbrush, some toothpaste, and some multivitamins.  After the obligatory check for .22 or .45 ammo (negatory), I wandered through the movie section on my way out.  Saw "Section 9" on Blu Ray so I picked that up.  Went to the register where "Nikki" was having a four-way conversation with 2 co-workers and her nasal wart, paid for my stuff.

Walking out the door... bing, bing, bing.

The septuagenarian Enforcer of the Purchase wanted to see my receipt.  Normally I have the patience to say "Nope, it's my property.  You can personally arrest me if you'd like but you'll be civilly liable for false arrest if you're wrong... your trained monkey at the register failed to deactivate the RFID on my DVD... again."  This results in about a 10 second stand-off until they see through my bag, see the outline of a DVD in it, roll their eyes and "allow" me to continue on my way.

Today, I was feeling less sociable than that (remember grugly?), so I just shook my head "No" and walked out the door with his shouts creating a backwind behind me.  I walked to my truck and got in and drove off.  He was muttering something into a radio about getting my license plate, and when I pulled out of my parking spot I was maybe 70 feet away from him or so.  We'll see if he got my plate and if they do anything.

I'm so fed up with an electronic beeper being "probable cause" that I am suspect of stealing something.  When all it really is, is proof that their half-trained apes on the registers don't know how to do their jobs.

I've got my receipt taped to the cover of my new movie, just in case police actually come by to say "Hi."  I kinda doubt it, though.  The guy had glasses and looked like he just muttered and wandered off as I drove away, so I don't think he got my license.  A review of video surveillance (something I don't have an issue with, nor the RFID tags themselves... just the beeps as justification of PC, along with search and detention of my person by another lay person) will demonstrate I obviously didn't steal anything.

If you don't like Wal-Mart's policy, quit going and quit whining.

Doesn't appear to me that 2010 will be much different with respect to APS anti-WalMart screeds than 2009.

I've seen those theft-detection errors happen at plenty of stores, not just the one targeted in this thread.

Me, I would've just pulled the receipt and waved it in the air as I continued to walk to my SUV.

Then again, I don't look for fights, and as far as I know, the UN Blue Helmets still haven't found my driveway yet.
