Still having questions about Mozilla Firefox
« on: January 15, 2010, 12:33:56 AM »
Ok folks, help out an old man agin wood ja?  I am trying to figure out how to get Firefox to save my tabs and refresh them when I exit so I don't have to rewind them every time I log back on.  I finally figured out how to save them, but they come back up where I left off.

Oh and thanks for the tip on magnifying the contents of my screen.  Sure helped before I got my new glasses, and helps with small print even now.

i can't remember if i posted these, so please forgive me if i have

some addons for fire fox

no script, is anoying because you have to tell it to allow all the sites you frequent you want flash on, and it's updated every day or too. but it makes pages you don't need/want flash on load FAST =D

tweak network settings, i will catch some flak for this one, but it will speed up your browser. but some sites wont load right if you go to far :-X

grabanddrag, works like adobe reader you click the page away from text and can scroll with the mouse. in the settings try turning the drag multiplier to 3-6  =D

forecastfox, you tell it your zip and it adds the current condenations and forecast to the status bar. you can download different icons if you don't like the default. [popcorn]

firesizer, it adds the current window size to your status bar, you can click on it to resize firefox to preset sizes.

firegestures, with this you can right click and move the mouse to do things in firefox. left is back(or close if you have that addon =)) right is forward left right is new tab, etc. =)

back to close, turns the back button to a close tab(or window depending on settings) =) i can't live with out this one [tinfoil]

flagfox, not always right but i like seeing the flags next to the address bar.[popcorn]

statusbarex, if you want to know this one adds memory usage etc to your status bar

FEBE, now that you've got it the way you like it, back it up! =D

cooliris, if you have a decent graphics card this one opens a nice 3d interface for searching/viewing pics and video. you can double click to blow one up to almost full screen and drag them left and right with the mouse. alot of fun if your computer is up to it. oh and as far as i know it's broken on win2000 and back =(

sorry for posting all this garbage, but i thought someone might benefit from it, and i was bored

A few of my favorites:

Speed Dial https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4810 if you have a number of sites that you consistently visit but don't want to open up all the tabs.

Fox Clocks https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1117 if you want to different times displayed.

Ad Block Plus https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 to block those annoying ads.

Quick Page Zoom https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6715 to enlarge/reduce a web page quickly.

United States English Dictionary https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3497 obvious.

IE Tab https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419 open ie inside of firefox

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking to do. It sounds like you DON'T want to open to where you were on the extra tabs when you last closed Firefox. Do you want to open multiple home pages each time? If so:

I had a big ball of flak to toss your way, but then I realized that this wasn't the plugin I originally thought it was.

Post that plugin that pre-downloads every linked site on the page you are currently reading in the hopes that IF you click that link the new page will load faster, and I'll unleash the flak.

That "tweek network settings" add-on made a noticeable improvement on how fast pages load, thanks!

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

That would probably solve his problem, but as I understand it he wants Firefox to open where he left it, but to do a refresh on all of his tabs instead of loading them from the cache.  So if he closed it on Round Table, he wants to open it to the new Round Table posts, not the old ones.

Grandpa, I think you can get to where you want to go by:

1>Lay out the tabs in the order you want for them to reappear
1>Go to Tools--Options--Main--Startup section--"When firefox starts show my home page".  In the home page section you will see your tabs listed in order.
2>Mash the button "Use Current Page"
3>OK to save the new settings.

Upon start Firefox will load your selected tabs.

Now let's say you want to surf a different area and afterwards come back to your original tabs.  Easy 'nuf.  To the immediate left of the URL bar at the top of Firefox there is a little icon that looks like a house.  Mash the icon and it will reload your home tabs.

Yup, just tried it.  Works fine.

And the gold star goes to Waitone. =D  One of the frustrations I have is not knowing enough computerize to ask the questions in the correct way to get answers.  Thanks for being patient with me.
