I would, but I think an in-persom meeting would result in a lot hand-meets-face.

So I joined the fb group.  =)

What's transpired to gin up all this haterade.

What's transpired to gin up all this haterade.

He went on TV yesterday spouting his gibberish about the earthquake in Haiti.  Here's the quote.  I can post a link to video if you like.

Quote
And you know, Kristi, something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it's a deal.

And they kicked the French out. You know, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other. Desperately poor. That island of Hispaniola is one island. It is cut down the middle on the one side is Haiti the other is the Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have and we need to pray for them a great turning to god and out of this tragedy I'm optimistic something good may come. But right now we are helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable.

On one of the other boards I frequent the left wingers are all up in arms over this also.

The left seems to pay more attention to him than Christians do as a general rule.

Maybe the left can pass a law outlawing belief in the devil.
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

Alright.  I'm a fairly conservative Christian, and I gotta say Pat has stuck his foot in his mouth, and his head up his @$$, all in one sentence.  I'd love to grab him by the ear, drag him into the corner, and remind him of what his momma probably told him, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all!"

What a moron.

For the most part I've seen more Christians upset about this than anyone else.

He's like a crazy uncle, I stopped paying him any mind a while ago.

ok I'll stick my foot in my mouth.
The only thing I can see that he did wrong was TIMING.

I wouldn't see anything wrong with that comment or the perspective he is trying to convey had he done it months or years later in an article or a book.

I agree while people are still dying,   very tacky.

However the citing of factual historical knowledge and placing it within one's own opinionated context.  Not the end of the world.

Which of course is not true. Well, resorts yes, but they've had a string of stupid governments and they're not doing that great.

His preface was stupid. However, the salient point of all this is:

Quote
They need to have and we need to pray for them a great turning to god and out of this tragedy I'm optimistic something good may come. But right now we are helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable.

If he'd have said only that, it would have been fine.

To say a people are cursed is why they had a natural disaster is presumptous. (That is, beyond the curse of our fallen world.) Tell me BEFORE the disaster happens that God will judge them by that disaster and I'll believe you, prophet. Tell me afterwards that it is the judgement of God and I'm skeptical. I know quite well:

Quote
for He makes His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

However, despite his stupidity, at least he realizes the important part of all this. If only he'd have focused solely on the important part.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

I happen to agree whole heartedly with what you're saying.  Had these comments been made months or years ago, or in the future, I don't think I'd be upset with him about it.  But talk about piss-poor timing!  And of course, the media has jumped on this with both feet, gleefully repeating his comments.

I think so.  I'm not so sure it's really Christian to believe that one can make these kinds of bargains with Satan, anyway.

Yep, Pat Robertson said something dumb.

Tell me again, why does anyone care that Pat Robertson said something dumb?

The left and anti-religion bigots care because it's an excuse to make broad brush stroke hateful stereotypes about Christians.

Christians are annoyed cause it gives people ammo to smear us with.
