Still on a land line here, mainly for DSL.  I have a cell, but nobody ever calls me on it.  CD's, that's what youtube is for.  If we want to hear a song, we just bring it up  on youtube.  SD cards replacing DVD's would be fine by me.  They don't get scratched.

I can see landlines becoming rarer. I've started wondering why I still keep mine. I've mostly kept it for faxing, because some people I fax to and from can't get with the e-doc scene. But at some point it should be up to them to get with the program instead of me supporting their luddite-ness.

Landlines often work when the power fails and also when idiots panic and overload the cell network.

These people don't understand the meaning of obsolete.  Rotary phones are obsolete, 5¼ floppys are obsolete, room sized computers are obsolete.  Millions of people use Blackberrys and have pocket cameras.  Some of those things are on their way out, but not for a while.

And I would hardly compare DVDs to Betamax.

Rotary phones still work.  My parents have a fake antique phone that has the microphone mounted on the phone and an ear piece to hold to your ear.  It surprises visitors that it actually works.

The main thing to remember is that a land line without a line powered phone defeats the purpose.

I still buy CDs and DVDs. Something about actually being able to hold a physical copy, although if they switched to something like a USB drive or SD card I wouldn't complain. I don't care much for ebooks, but I do have a few. Again, something about having a physical copy. But I also don't mark up my books because I don't like the idea of writing in them. I've taken up keeping a slip of paper in them and writing page numbers of certain things I find interesting.

Fail.  You can't find The Finches' Leviathans Home on YouTube.    =(   Luckily, it is available here:  http://new.music.yahoo.com/finches/tracks/leviathans-home--39072757

True, but just because something works doesn't mean it's not obsolete.

Actually, I think there's lots of places that rotary phones will not work anymore.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.
