Book of Eli

Great movie   Of course, I have a soft spot for post apocoliptic stuff  >:D  Not the usual crap that rolls out of hollyweird, either.

Hows the gunplay? Any clicking sounds of safeties taken off on glocks?

Does the movie have any religious overtones? I've read some complaints about that (on PC boards, of course). I'm just curious because in the movie "Burning Man," Denzel Washington's character turns to the Bible. If "Book of Eli" refers to religion at all, it would be interesting.

Gunplay isn't bad, he racks a shotgun in one scene, then again a couple scenes later (maybe he unloaded the chamber in between the scenes?).
Other than that, pretty good.  I wasn't counting but IMFDB says he fired the HK more times than is possible, but I remember him reloading too.
Some stuff you don't see a lot in movies - CZ hunting rifles, pretty sure I saw a VZ-58, BHP.

Here is a good review of it at Big Hollywood, however to reveal the answer to your question would involve spoilers.. so just check out this link if you don't care. Review

Its really hard to get into without spoiling the movie.  There is religion in it and its hard to explain without ruining it.  I'm a dirty atheist and it didn't bother me at all, quite possibly because its the opposite end of the religion spectrum from the trite crap that usually rolls out of hollyweird.
Gun play is decent.  No glock safeties.  A scene or two with a little more shooting than a gun should have.  A few extra shotgun racks for effect.
Off the wall twist at the end I just can't even hint at, and if someone does, I'll sure as hell disappear this whole thread.  Really good movie though.

*************SPOILER ALERT****************

I just have a hard time believeing that only *ONE* Bible is left in the world.  When you consider that it is the most published book EVER...... I mean there's one in every hotel/motel room in North America.

Same here.  Gary Oldman?  Denzel Washington?  Post-Apocalyptic world?  I'm so there.

SPOILER REPLY

Its a movie, and most of them require some level of suspension of belief.

I don't think you guys are letting out a spoiler. I figured that out by watching the trailers.

Yup, Goldman is a national treasure, and Denzel is almost always worth watching. I really liked the movie.

I saw a preview and thought it looked interesting. Is it more of a straight action movie, or does it include scary/horror elements? My wife will watch action stuff, but hates scary movies.

Pastor and his wife saw it.  They said it was gory, but didn't say anything about it being particularly scary.

While there was a few "gory" parts I don't think it was a gory movie. I loved the movie, while there was action, it wasn't all about action. I loved how it was filmed. And I loved the twist at the end, pure amazing. It even makes sense for why he did and said certain things. I really want to see it again, especially now that I know the ending. And Mila Kunis is smoking hot in this too,  =D Also religion definitely plays into it, which I really liked.

I thought that too, however that is explained in the middle of the movie.

I finally got a chance to watch it yesterday.
Fantastic film and the subtle hints towards the final story twist were, well subtle :)

I highly recommend this one to everyone.  No matter what your religious proclivities may be.
I think the key aspect that could be taken here, is how much of an impact words can have on the human mind.

Just go see it, you WILL be entertained.

"Burning Man,"

I believe you're talking about the movie Man on Fire, which I thought was very well done.

Man on Fire was not religious in any sort of sane perspective way.

I haven't seen Book of Eli, the previews made it look good though.

I think the people that moan about Religious overtones need to take a 'Chill Pill'.
I'm not Religious at all but that that doesn't mean I can't enjoy a story with such content.

Agreed
Especially since the vast majority of movies and media in no way reflect the ratio of people
who consider themselves religious.
So for one or two movies to come out with religious overtones is only normal.
In fact it's a bit abnormal that we don't see more.

I'm as far from religious as it gets and I really dug the movie.  YMMV

I just saw it this weekend, and now I have to go see it again after getting to the ending.

Though I kept expecting Ashton Kutcher to come in at some point clutching his face, screaming "Ah, my eye!"  I can't see anything with Mila Kunis in it without immediately making a mental link to That 70's Show... or Family Guy.
