And some people wonder why I'm such a misanthrope...
« on: February 14, 2010, 09:30:47 PM »
After feeding the cats and having my morning coffee, I take out the trash prior to running some errands and am greeted with this.

While a chavish 20 something neighbor is picking up peices of his truck from the road and grass in front of my place.  Says his truck was hit as well last night, hence the peices by my home.

Oddity of this is that his truck is a good 60 yards away from my car, and around a slight bend in the road.  =|

And is that aroma of ethyl alcohol I smell on his breath?

Cops are called to fill out the paperwork, and after one of the officers confronts my neighbor with a peice of his truck the neighbor had missed, the neighbor admits to having been drinking and driving last night and having bashed into the side of my car with his truck, then leaving the scene to park in front of his place.

*SIGH*

I was so enjoying not having a car payment and driving a vehicle I knew ALL the history on.  Now I get to fight with his insurance company to either fix the damage (if the unibody is not fraked, which it may be) or compensate me for the fair value of the car so I can replace it.  If the latter I'll likely end up with another year or so of car payments if I buy new.

And I just filled the gas tank on Friday.  :'(

I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

My condolences, Sindawe.

I managed to get a kid discharged from the USAF after his car got drunk and sideswiped mine on base one evening, leaving bits of his vehicle embedded in mine - making the sleuthing particularly easy.

Still had to look up "chavish", though.   ;)

Oh man, that looks expensive.  I wonder if it will be totaled?  I wonder if the cops were able to cite the neighbor for a DUI?

Welcome to the club, brother Sindawe.  I got my suprise new car payment handed me right before Christmas courtesy of an elderly driver who had no business behind the wheel of a vehicle.

on the good side at least you weren't in it. that might have left a mark
It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Sadly no, since this happened in the small hours of the morning before the snowfall, and I did not discover it until 0900ish.  Plenty of time for the neighbor to get more liqoured up and claim it was post accident.

What a drag. From the brief description of the neighbor, I'll keep my fingers crossed that he actually has insurance. Hopefully the frame wasn't bent and it can be repaired to pre-crash condition.

Now, I'm just wondering, does your neighbor have an obama sticker on his car?  Just wondering...

That sucks.  I've actually had it happen twice, . . to the same car, . . during daylight hours, . . and good weather, . . by drivers who were not intoxicated.   =|

The six electric meters behind the car might show that he might of been in the driveway.

I almost had someone hit my car and my house. And I live 3/8 of a mile off the road. I came out pistol in hand as they left my yard in a hurry.

I enjoy my whiskey but I don't drive anywhere when I'm doing it.

In my view of justice, everything he owns should immediately be sold off, his bank accounts emptied, and every penny he earns placed in your account until you have enough money to buy an equal or better vehicle.

Oh, and maybe a beating for good measure.

Sorry, this kind of thing pushes my buttons. I hope you get paid in full for everything.  =|

Same thing happened to me many years ago when my first wife and I were in our first apartment. Came out to find a bent bumper and broken taillight. Some of the pieces of red stuff didn't match our taillight, though. Funny thing was , they DID seem to match a newly-broken taillight on our next-door neighbor's car. First he denied having even driven his car the night before, then when we mentioned "police" he had a sudden flash of insight and agreed to pay for a new bumper and taillight.

People can be scum. My neighbor was the son of an old and prominent family in the area. Bad seed, I guess ... or maybe that's the way he was raised and being from a "good family" ain't all its cracked up to be.

First-term airman.  Several UCMJ counts, and his hitting my car while drunk was just the icing on the cake.   ;)
