I need a ripping software
« on: May 02, 2010, 03:06:32 PM »
I picked up a audio book from the library, Next by Crichton, the format is MP3 CD.  I rip audio books to my MP3 player and listen to them at work.  I can't rip the CDs, Media player won't do it, Rhapsody doesn't recognize it, the media converter can't do it either.  Anyone know of a good software that can do what I need it to do? ???

If it's an MP3 CD you should be able to just access it like any other data disc.  Unless they're doing something really goofy to them these days.

The disks won't let me copy/paste onto the play or my HD.  The CD's say they need a MP3-CD player to use.

Will Media Player play it?

Do you know someone with a Linux machine?  Maybe they can copy the files to a USB memory card.  (I wonder if the CD installed a rootkit on your PC?  Is it Sony?)

Have you done the latest security updates for Media Player?

Does your Library have a website with something like Overdrive where you can just download the book and then burn it to disc or put it on a MP3?

Uh... If you stick the disk in the drive, and then open it, instead of double-clicking or running it... What do you see?

Exact Audio Copy might work for you.  It's never failed to work for me, but I also haven't tried to rip any audio books.

Have you had any luck?

heres a trick I used to run when DRM got in the way of a project

output the audio to the speaker jack and input the sound to the audio input

hit record, then hit play

Ah, the analog loophole. Soon they'll want you to hook a DRM-compliant digital cable directly to your RIAA Brain Implant in order to listen to music. :police:

My library has that audio book; which version do you have, read by Dylan Baker or by Erik Singer?  (they seem to have it available for download too but I haven't explored that yet)  I want to see what you're talking about.

I haven't gotten back to it yet, been working too much.  I'll give it a try this weekend.

EAC has been gawdawful slow (like, >9 hours for a single CD) every time I've tried to use it.  Haven't had time to figure out what I'm doing wrong, as I've been converting movies lately.  Now that I'm done with the movies, I hope to figure out why audio takes so much freaking longer than video+audio to copy.

eac forum, then there are a few things. the first is your cd drive, some are great some are not worth messing with. check the list and see if the setting for your drive are there first. if that doesn't work, lens cleaner. then defrag, scratch that start with that. =D is the drive set for dma? do you have an sata MB? if so i would probably buy new optical drives(if that will get you to all sata) i try to check the reviews for ripping speed before choosing drives. maybe virus or spyware, have you tried spybot and such?
