That wasn't the first thought on my mind when one jumped in front of my car Sunday.

First one I have seen up close. Would rather have not been doing 50mph when I saw it that close.

You think that's bad... try seeing a moose like that at 60mph  :O

For one summer back in the late 60s I had a little 50cc 2-cycle trail bike I'd take up in the mountains and prowl around with.  Two or three times I came up on a group of deer browsing and dozing amongst the aspen as I was just putt-putting along and not revving the engine.  It was almost as if they didn't recognize a person on a bike as a threat.  Just does, I never saw a buck and the fawns were probably hidden away.

I always wondered about that.   Anyone else have this kind of experience?  Off-topic, but the remarks about 'cycle encounters with wildlife awakened the memory and I'm curious.

If you are fond of lamb.....don't forget the other dark meat.....llama.

Tastes like a cross between lamb and beef from what I understand. If I had room in my freezer I would have picked up 3 adult llamas on Craigslist for a song.

Well the gyros that I eat are lamb meat with other spices. I know the deli proprietor and he let me examine the ingredients on the box the meat came in.

Mmm. Had some of those in Crete that were made from "geep" once. A geep is a very shaggy type of goat that looks like it was crossbred with a sheep, a specie that is apparently isolated to only that island. Those gyros and the "geep on a stick" was absolutely delicious.

Around here that mystery meat has been spinning in the hot box for quite some time.  And it has the consistency of Spam.

Yet, amazingly, the same place that tries to sell me a gyro made from that has lamb kabobs, thin-sliced lamb shoulder grilled for shawarma, and a lamb stew to make the Irish weep.  And on Fridays there is lamb shank with green beans and baked new potatoes.

Friend of mine T-Boned one on his bike after it jumped right out in front of him from some roadside brush. Some sort of largish BMW cruising bike, the model escapes me at the moment. Didn't end to well for either him, the deer, or the bike. Didn't even lay the bike down, damn thing literally jumped right out in front of him.

Oddly enough, this is very true. I've found that often establishments run by Greeks tend to have either top notch or *expletive deleted*it with no inbetween, and more often then not leaning towards the side of *expletive deleted*it.

Pronghorns are very sensitive to leg count.  You can get very close on any number of wheels, or on horseback, but approach on two legs takes a lot of time and cover.  If you want to get really close, be prepared to get down on hand and knees or your belly.

The does around here get a bit antsy if approached on foot or in my car.  I don't have a bike or ATV to test.  Surprisingly, if you are on foot in the presence of does here, they will visibly relax and return to browsing if you start pissing.  (This is a response to men, none of the gals who visit have been willing to test the gender specificity of the effect.  None of the bucks have, either. =D)

Don't feel bad.  I had that same reaction my first day hunting.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.
