Take a Bite Out of Crime!

Forsaking the more traditional means of self defense. Many women who are “at risk” of being raped, can’t spare the time or sweat and aggravations that can pop up while training in self defense classes, taking instructions and getting licensed to carry a firearm. They won’t even use more humane deterrents such as Mace or personal alarms – they’ve taken to using “Rapex” anti-rape, female condoms.

The anti-rape condom is designed to stop the rapist by hooking onto his penis which subsequently hurts him badly and disables him. The anti-rape condom is made from latex in the form of a sheath. It is held firmly by shafts of sharp, inward-facing microscopic barbs. It is to be worn by a woman in her vagina like a tampon. If an attacker attempts to rape an “equipped” lady, the penis then penetrates the latex and is hooked by the barbs, causing severe pain while giving the victim time to escape. The condom would slide off and remain attached to the attacker’s penis and can only be removed through surgery, which would of course, alert hospital staff and the police. The Rapex anti-rape condom would also act as a regular condom, reducing chances of impregnation or STD infections. (a bonus!) This device made it’s debut in South Africa in 2005.   It has been renamed Rape-axe – check it out!

Both male and female critics alike have objected to the invention as “medieval” and “vengeful, horrible, and disgusting” and are planning on stopping it’s sale in drugstores. Since it’s impossible to detect (except the hard way), there’s no visible deterrent in the eyes of an attacker Although this makes it even more surreptitious and simple to trick attackers – this only seem to fuel criticism that the device is vindictive. Concern for the well-being of a violent rapist has sparked an outcry of even harsher responses from proponents of the condom. The device has caused concern that it could be worn for consensual sex as part of an malicious act of revenge or cruelty. While, still others fear that use of the Rapex would only anger the attacker and further jeopardize the victim. I rather doubt that unless there are more than one attacker.

I have tried to follow the track record of Rapex sales but can only find information regarding the squabbles regarding it’s inhumane “human bear-trap” types and those who support it. Oddly enough, for all of the steps we take to keep our women safe from rape, the Rapex female “anti-rape condom” is taking a lot more shots for stopping it’s use than support. Odd indeed…I thought?  How about you?

I think it's a nifty device... except I don't see it really as an "anti-rape" device.  I guess it stops the act after the first penetration due to pain.

Certainly has potential for abuse, though.

I do have to wonder... how many women walk around every day and say "You know, it's awfully likely I'm gonna get raped today, so I should get one of those anti-rape condoms and install it right now."  It does no good unless used, just like a CCW gun does no good unless carried.  Which means a woman who wants its benefits needs to have it installed all the time.

I read another article on it.  It was designed in Africa where rape is way more common than the civilized world.

Certain parts of that continent have even seen the likes of rapists attacking babies because of their belief that having sex with a virgin can cure AIDS/HIV (babies are seen as the best way to ensure the virgin part).

I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

A friend of mine had lived in South Africa before he came to Israel. His father used to sleep with a shotgun under his pillow when they lived there.

Yes, it's BAD there. Some people have "rape gates" IN their homes.

They're similar to the deadbolted iron-bar security screen-doors you sometimes see on U.S. inner city homes, but in SA they were placed on interior bedroom doors.

Although this Vagina Dentata device was developed years ago, and makes the Internet/news circuit whenever some media outlet "rediscovers" it on a slow news day.

Although I can see the Law of Unintended Consequences having some nasty side-effects here.

1. A rapist enraged by his injury kills the woman wearing it.

2. If the device becomes common, rapists will switch to another orifice which is much riskier for the spread of AIDS.

It boggles the mind that they can say it's vindictive with a straight face.  As if the rapist deserves pitty for getting bit by one of these?

I wonder how long it'll be before some girl decides that she's going to make a soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend's life hell, by putting one of these in, inviting him for "make up sex", letting him get stuck, and then claiming she was afraid of him, so she put one on before breaking up with him, and (oh, look) there it is on his dingus, proving that he raped her and earning him a SOR listing for the rest of his life...

Why would she need to go to the bother of buying one of theose things *shudder* and having sex wuth the disliked ex when it is still relatively easy for her to claim DV/rape without even seeing his face?

Yes, the system still prefers physical evidence when it can be had, but some policritters masquerading as the state's lawyer will prosecute even the flimsiest cases.

If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Not to mention that in many of the countries that this is intended to be used in the ability to properly clean it is almost non-existent.
