More Credit Card Fraud
« on: July 20, 2010, 12:03:27 AM »
This is getting old...  a few months ago I posted here about my debit card (which is only used as an ATM card and has never left my possession) being compromised.  It all worked out in the end, but was annoying.

Now...  my citibank Visa card was hacked early last month.  This one I use for most everything I buy (yes, I pay the bill off each month) and I would expect this one to get comprised if it were going to happen.  Two charges..  $300 and $450 to call-save.biz in Luxembourg.  Citibank called me before I noticed the charges and I agreed that they were fraudulent, disputed them, and they canceled the card.  Everything was peachy.  I went to pay my CC bill today and saw those charges still there.  I called Citibank with a WTF and they said I needed to sign an affidavit that they were going to send me (didn't get it).  We did not discuss this on the previous call, I specifically asked if they needed anything else from me when they called me and they said no.  Minor PITA and I'm sure I'll get the charges reversed...  I'm not paying the $750 to them, hopefully they give back the 24% interest on it!  Don't get me started on the APR..  like others is was in the low teens until most everybody got jumped up at once last year, but since I don't generally carry a balance I'm not too concerned about it.  Actually..  I feel slightly "lucky", I think most folks were bumped up to 29%.

I've only been hit once. It was an inside job at the bank I used at the time.

I used to use cash every where, now I use a debit card whenever I go out. I do try to run it as credit if possible.

Same here--Visa check card for nearly everything.  No interest rates, no minimum charges, nada.  If I don't have enough in my account to cover it, it's Declined.  I've never had a problem *knock on wood*.

I do the same thing except I can go 1,000 over whats in the account. <--- That saved my butt once.
But I do carry cash, and use it for anything less than 20 bucks.

I really do want to punch people in the back of the head that are trying to use a CC for a cup of coffee when I'm waiting in line.
I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

I'll just get out my checkbook then.  You don't mind waiting while I enter the transaction in the my register do you?  Oh..  you want my phone number too and want to see some ID?  Can I write the check for $100 over?  Are you sure?  Can you check with your manager?

swiping a card and punching in 4 digits often takes MUCH less time than waiting on the "barista/cashier" to make change from a twenty. Especially when the amount due is 5.42 and you hand them a twenty and 17 cents, just because you want 3 quarters in you pocket. The deer in headlights and fumbling is humorous.
