Cali Lewis: Top 10 Survival Necessities
« on: July 19, 2010, 05:45:21 PM »
A YouTube video is included. Also, I have a huge crush on Cali Lewis.

Quote
10.) A Leatherman Multitool
These awesome all-in-one tools put the swiss army knife to shame! They have pliers, screwdrivers, saws, tweezers, and just about anything else you might need in a disaster.

9.) Potassium Iodide Tablets
If there’s a nuclear incident exposure to radioactive iodide is what’s going to get you! However, taking potassium iodide saturates your thyroid gland with safe iodide to block the radioactive stuff.

8.) Magnesium Fire Starter
Lighters run out of gas too quick so get yourself a Magnesium fire starter instead!

7.) Flexible Splint & Bandage
Flexible splints to help set and protect an injured limb. Just bend and shape it to fit the part that’s broken and wrap it to keep it immobilized.

6.) Hand Crank Radio
An emergency radio will pick up just about any frequency and operates on batteries, solar power, or even hand cranking.

5.) Shotgun
You know you want one! :-)

4.) Water Purifier & Collapsible Water Carrier
In an emergency you are going to need water! So get one of these pumps to filter whatever water you find nearby to make it safe to drink. Just drop the filter into a nearby stream and pump to fill a container.

3.) Emergency Food Supplies
Tornados, Earthquakes, riots… whatever your fear, keep a 2 week supply of emergency food on hand just in case… Because when disaster strikes you will NOT be able to go to the grocery store!

2.) Camp Stove
But when you get really hungry and come across some quality food you’re going to want to cook it. A camp stove beats a fire any day of the week!

1.) SureFire LED Flashlight
Ok, I may have overdone it with the flashlight just a tad in my video, but you really should get a high quality LED flashlight like the SureFires. And make sure you get extra batteries as the more exotic ones will almost certainly be impossible to find after a disaster.

Do you have other suggestions for must have items in a disaster? Drop a comment below and let me know!

She forgot to include a knife.  She is clueless.  (Leathermans rock, but they are not knives.)

The point is that a beautiful, geeky woman, likes multi-tools, shotguns, and LED flashlights. Plus, how many people in the media include a gun of any kind at all in their survival lists?

I'm sorry.  Was I supposed to know who she is?  ([whispers]Or think she was beautiful?)

Always glad to help.  =)  I know it was a little harsh, but you have to expect it when you post a Top Ten List of Survival Hardware on a forum full of at-least-somewhat survivally people.  We always rip 'em apart.

But, yeah, it's cool that she included the gun.

You're both right.  She is beautiful.

And a knife would be an essential tool, along with a sharpening stone.

I think you're missing the point there Fisty. He's not saying "Here's a list to help us here at APS prepare" he's saying "Holy crap an attractive geek is A. thinking about survival & B. including a gun in that plan." Whether or not the list is great or useful to us personally, it's still really cool.

She's pretty perky for sure. :)

I do like the shotgun part of the video where she simply looks at the camera and racks the slide. Well done.

On the APS Geek side, yeah a multi-tool is an essential survival item, but it's not a knife (insert Crocodile Dundee humor here).

^  Agreed.  Enough said with the snicker-snack all by itself.  Smart enough not to go further, but also smart enough to exhibit it.

She shore is delightful to watch, not only cute but animated.

Well done, Cali!

I like the way she provided links to almost everything in her list.

I also like the way item #5 got such a resounding round of applause in the reviewer comments.    :P

Better than the usual 1) 4,000 guns, 2) 370,000 rounds of ammo (300,000 of which is .22lr), 3) gold, and 4) a single case of MREs.  ;/

Do a search for images of her.

I think she is pretty adorable overall. Maybe she isn't a "classic" beauty, big deal.

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

^ " I think she is pretty adorable overall. "

Ditto.

I don't know what you mean by classic beauty, unless it means "with 454 grams of makeup."

Which she doesn't have.

Or need.

Ah, to be 40 years younger.... no, make that 50...

Say, what was that shotgun anyhow?  She actually distracted me from the gun (imagine that!) with that cute mischievous look as she racked it, and I couldn't replay the vid.  (At work, phone rang, business is business.)

A 500?
