The next time you read or hear of LE complaining or moaning about officer deaths on the rise, remind them of this:

Us non badge wearers get a hefty fine. Given to us by someone who stopped us for not wearing a seat belt while they themselves most likely did not have theirs on. Night time seat belt enforcement, seat belt check points, no seat belt being a primary reason to pull someone over. Pot calling kettle n

You're right, being saddened when someone dies while doing their job is "moaning and complaining", and you should definitely do whatever you can to be smug and superior about it.

The next time you read or hear of LE complaining or moaning about officer deaths on the rise, remind them of this:

The first thing that usually comes to mind is that their job isn't as deadly as being a farmer.  Heck, I think truck driver is even higher.

Further, about half the police fatalities are traffic accidents.  Anybody that spends time on the road is at risk.  It's not just about standing on the line between "us" and the criminals.  Driving around all day is just as likely to kill them as some two bit thug with an SKS.

It's not that I dislike cops, or don't appreciate them, but I come from a family that's either been farming or driving truck for a couple generations so any time I hear "it's a dangerous job" as an excuse for making a poor decision I wonder what kind of whacky shenanigans they'd be pulling if they had to do something REALLY dangerous like driving an ancient tractor around a field all day.

Sorry, kinda got off on a tangent there.

Smug and superior is telling others, who you ticket and fine, that they must wear a seat belt so a car crash will not kill or seriously injure them. Then walk back to the police car, get in, not buckle up and drive off. Smug, superior and arrogant. But hey, what ever you use to convince yourself that others are haters when they shed light on a problem that needs it. It would be very easy to reduce police traffic deaths. Officers wearing seat belts. Click it or ticket. It's the law. You know that

Police officers being held to the same high standard as Joe Citizen would go a long way to improving relations between them and the public.

It's not just seat belt use - legislatures all over are passing laws against cell phone use or texting while driving - with good reason. Yet we put computers & video terminals in squad cars leading to things like this:

(officer on computer ran a stop sign & ran a guy over.)

At last report, no charges were filed.  HE is POLICE. The law makes an EXCEPTION for HIM.

I've never read about an exception for LE. But hey, break the law(s) to enforce the law, that's what we should replace "protect and serve"'with.

Cmon, you've been here long enough to know those kind of facts aren't really allowed in these kind of threads.

But that's not really the point.
Legislature passes a law requiring seatbelts. Legislature does not apply law to certain occupations, police, mailmen, firefighters, some delivery drivers, etc. APS solution: be a smug ahole when someone (only if he's a cop) dies.

SOP in these parts.
