Bremerton to Crater Lake on the Bike
« on: September 01, 2010, 04:45:35 PM »
Well, I decided at about 4:15 this morning that a run to Crater Lake on our last nice weekend seemed like the thing to do. I'm planning to shove off very early Thursday morning, slab down to check out the park, then find a place to camp for the night. Heading back north Friday morning, probably take my time and find some better roads, but still likely to be back home sometime Friday evening.

I've not been further south than McMinnville, so I'm not sure if there's anything special that I should be aware of down that way. Any input would be appreciated. Also, if anybody can suggest a back-up place to throw out a tent in case the non-reservable spots at the Crater Lake area campgrounds... Cheap's the word, forest service land or whatever.

Breweries to hit between here and there? I probably won't stop for a beer during the day, but I like to buy the logo glasses straight from the brewery when I can.

Don't know about camping, but have you ridden 101 through Coos Bay and up to Tillamook and Rockway Beach? It's a pretty ride.

I've hooked up with the 101 at Tillamook and then taken it north, but I haven't done the stretch from there to Coos Beach. I was actually considering taking that route back.

If you return via 101 on the coast, there's campgrounds and State Parks about every thirty feet.  No shortage of places to camp.
If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

My wife often says to me, "You are evil and must be destroyed." She may be right.

Liberals believe one should never let reason, logic and facts get in the way of a good emotional argument.

If I had a motorcycle, and the vacation time, and much shorter list of honeydo's I'd be very tempted tag along.

As long as we could avoid interactions with the Del Norte's.

I cannot imagine a more perfect time to have made this trip. The lake and surrounding park were stunning.
