Corded phone headset advice
« on: October 10, 2010, 07:25:16 PM »
Here is the situation: this coming Wednesday, I am giving a web seminar to a patient safety meeting. They will be looking at my slides via Webex and I will be speaking over a telephone and the sound will be sent out via Webex as well.

Here is my question: I would prefer to not hold a corded phone handset to my face for an hour.  A speakerphone will give poor sound quality. Is there such a thing as a headset with earphone and microphone that plugs into a RJ11 jack? Could I unplug the handset from my corded phone, plug in the headset where the handset plugs in and everything is copacetic?

Ideally, I would be able to find such a device for a nominal cost at a bricks and mortar office supply or electronics store.  Thanks for any suggestions.

ETA:
The S11 looks to be the least expensive one in the Plantronics line.  Unplug the headset from the base the the phone.  Plug the headset into the S11 base and then plug the S11 base into the phone base.  You are paying for the amplifier so the cost is more than just the headset.

Thanks for the suggestion.  In looking at the above model, another criteria comes to mind.  The earphone portion must be able to go over my right ear. I am significantly hard of hearing on both sides, and I use telephones on my right ear.

Most of the microphones are designed to do a 180 swing so you can do left or right ear.  In fact the S11 quick start guide shows the headset over the right ear.

If you were using the PC I would recommend the cheap Logitech headphones w/boom mic I just bought. It works GREAT and has a volume and mic mute switch on the cable(s). I had their much more expensive USB model but this is MUCH more compatible and less driver sensitive! Lemme go look up the model number etc... It is a Logitech ClearChatâ„¢ Stereo Headset and is only $12.99 HERE and I bought mine at Wal-Mart for $13.99.

PS: This one will only work with the boom mic on the right side and uses a mini-phono plug for the mic and another for the headphones.

I might not last very long or be very effective but I'll be a real pain in the ass for a minute!
