Monday night the Dell Inspiron desktop I bought in July died. No fan, no boot, apparently no power. I called Dell customer support at lunch on Tuesday, anticipating the worst based on others' experiences.
After 5 minutes on hold, a woman answered with a heavy Indian accent, and I thought "Here we go..."
I gave her the service tag # and express service # from the machine and described the problem (which I thought was a dead fan). She consulted level 2 support and came back with (after several repetitions at my request) "I will dispatch a technician to install a new motherboard and memory and power supply. Expect a call in 2-3 days."
I was shocked in a pleased way and told her so; all this had taken less than 30 minutes. Wednesday morning a tech called and told Leatherness he'd be there at 3:00 PM. He was, and by an hour later, the rebuilt PC was up and running like new. Twenty-eight hours from trouble call to problem resolved without me having to lift a finger or pay a penny. I'm still stunned.
