I am not, but I enjoy a good piece of sushi. In recent years, Seattle has really increased the number of good sushi places locally.
One of the best sushi places I have ever been at was in the city of Moses Lake. For those who don't know Washington, Moses Lake is a medium-sized town in Eastern Washington about 100 miles west of Spokane, and about 20,000 people live in the area.
Their chief claim to fame is an old Air Force base with very good and very long concrete runways. Back in the day, Moses Lake was host to B-47s, B-52s and an Atlas missile wing. Moses Lake is an emergency landing strip for the space shuttle.
Because of the very nice air base, low air traffic and frequent dry and sunny weather, Moses Lake has become quite the training ground for airlines buying new Boeing jets, especially 747s. Boeing has built an elaborate simulator lab in south Seattle, and the actual air time training is done in Moses Lake. For a while Lufthansa and various Japanese airlines were buying 747s by the bushel. The German and Japanese flight and ground crews would be in Moses Lake for a few weeks getting checked out on the new jets. Consequently, a couple very good European/German and Japanese restaurants opened in Moses Lake and had a thriving business serving the crews in training. I was in Moses Lake giving a lecture at the local hospital and was taken to dinner at one of the sushi restaurants. It was pretty good. I was also told that the crews really enjoyed the local Mexican restaurants, since Mexican food is apparently hard to come by in Germany and Japan.
