I've become a chocoholic
« on: December 18, 2010, 05:49:24 PM »
When I was a kid I loved chocolate. My fondness for sweets faded as I got older.

When I quit drinking three years ago, I enjoyed sweets more, although I didn't seek them out.

Last year, when my wife and I were travelling the south scoping out places to live, I started ordering sweets for dessert: fudge brownies with ice cream and chocolate syrup; chocolate cakes; fudge cakes dipped in chocolate; etc.

Weeks back I was at the checkout counter in Walgreens, and they had bars of Godiva chocolate, so I bought one. Next day I was back for another. Now I'm buying four or five at a time.

I'm trying to keep my weight in check because it all goes to the middle, so I make sure I don't eat too many calories for dinner, just so I can have a chocolate bar about 11 pm. I'm disciplined enough that, if I do have more than 1000 or so calories at dinner, I won't have the chocolate. But I try to keep those dinner calories down.

Next thing you know I'll be getting zits.

I think you're confusing chocolate with cranberry juice. ;) [Language warning!]

If you are jonsing for Godiva, there is somethinf seriously remiss in your life.  It is that you have never tasted real chocolate.

Go find a store in your big city.  One where they either make their own or one that carries some real stuff.

Maybe you will get your head out of the Fannie Mae box sooner than ;ater.

stay safe.

Actually I've been buying Ghiradelli for quite some time. I also found a local chocolate shop (Morgan Price) that has excellent chocolate. They also have fantastic toffee, something I thought I didn't like because my only experience was with toffee that was hard as plate glass.

It's just a quirk of history that chocolate isn't a prohibited substance  ;/

Next thing you know, you'll be breaking into houses to support your chocolate habit  :P

Every year I make assorted fudge baskets for family and friends and you'll never find plain chocolate fudge. I prefer other flavors mixed in.
In fact I just finished my first two batches: White Chocolate Turtle and Circus Peanut.

Other than this time of year I really don't eat much chocolate at all.

I have to admit that Nutella has become a steady part of my diet.  Wheat toast with crunchy peanut butter, Nutella and banana has become my starter food lately - along with a few cups of coffee and a glass of milk.

Dark chocolate and a glass of sherry. MMMMM  I like the 70% or better dark chocolate.  Dark chocolate with hot pepper in it. Yum.

See, I can't eat high cacao content chocolate.  I'm sure it's awesome, but the acidity really bothers me.  If I'm going to eat something that will cause my mouth to hurt for a couple days, I'll take a lebanese feast over a fancy chocolate bar any day.

But I've started getting some milk chocolate from time to time.  The Hershey's Symphony bars are awesome, especially the ones with bits of toffee and almond in.  Very creamy, good taste, and not as acidic as the gourmet stuff.  I've tried a couple higher end chocolates, and have found nothing to beat a Symphony bar.

I'll try the dark chocolate with hot pepper, if I can have that with a side of novacaine.  :P
