beef with circuit city through amazon
« on: December 05, 2010, 08:00:56 PM »
on cyber monday i purchased two vivitar dvr925 camcorders. i thought 24.99 each per hd camcorder with 2.4" screen, lithium rechargable battery, and onboard memory as well as sdhc was a great deal.  thursday i received my shipment.  wow, fast.  only problem is that they forgot my vivitar dvr925's, and shipped two vivitar dvr410's.  1.8" screens, no onboard memory, sd only, and aaa batteries.  i emailed circuit city thursday evening, but they have not returned the favor.

at what point do i involve the federal trade commision?

If you can access the sale page still I'd recommend taking screen shots and maybe saving a copy of the page. Along with making copies of your receipt. Give them a call on Monday and share your displeasure with them.
Look, tiny text!

funny you should say that,  i just logged onto amazon and my account shows i purchased a "vivitar 410" (with all the specs of the dvr925) even though my receipt is still for the dvr925, and all their emails shows that i purchased the 925.

They did.  When Circuit City went bankrupt a company called Systemax bought their domain name from them and uses the brand to sell equipment.

It's not the same company as the old Circuit City at all.

Yeah, I would call Amazon, not the 3rd party.

Yep.  Work it through Amazon.  They are pretty strict on their vendor's agreements and in making sure the customer gets treated fairly.

i called "circuit city" today.  tiger direct picked up the phone.  seems they have the same parent company.  they claim it is an amazon link issue.

called amazon, and they have opened an a to z claim and will be back in touch in one to two weeks.

i made it clear that i just wanted the product i have already paid for, and did not want my money back.  we will see.

Tiger Direct picked up some of the old CompUSA stores when they went under too, didn't they?

Sorta.  Tiger Direct, CompUSA, and now Circuit City (among others) are all subsidiaries of Systemax.

well, i called amazon a few more times and expressed my dissatisfaction. on the last call i told them that i had been in touch with the attorney generals office who had informed me that i had a right to a "similar" product with the same specs if not the same product.  i told the drone (who was pleasant enough, if not able to meet my request) that  someone able to make a decision needed to call me.  within five minutes i had a phone call.  they told me that circuit city no longer had the better camcorders, but if i purchase the product through one of their other suppliers they will refund me the difference of 102.xx.  then i will be able to return the original ones to circuit city.  i had him email me the "plan" before proceeding with the purchase.  i will be back with the details when it is finished!

Late to the thread, but I hope your issue with Amazon works out.

I actually have to give Amazon a plug. I order A LOT of stuff from them, and have for a lot of years. I have never had to use customer service until just this month, when I had to use it twice.

The first time, they sent me the wrong product. Using the web interface, I had the correct product on my front door before I could get to UPS with the incorrect item to ship it back (using the free label I was able to print directly from the site).

The second time, the stupid Ontrac guy (for those who are serviced by them, nicest customer service around, but crappy delivery service) delivered my package to the wrong address. He actually came to my house and swore that, " I left the package right here on your porch". Three days later, a neighbor that had been out of town came by and gave me the package. In the meantime, Amazon had already taken care of things and overnighted me a duplicate order. I had to actually call them versus using the web because their returns webpage doesn't have an option for "return item, don't give me a refund or store credit". The hot sounding Eastern European woman on the phone kept thanking me over and over again for returning the duplicate items. Also I had a whole 30 second wait time to get a customer rep, and this was a week before Christmas.

Anyway, I was really impressed with their customer service, and I'm sure they'll make things right for you.

For a short time before I came to my anti-DRM senses I used amazon un-box to download some TV show episodes.  In a couple of cases the DRM was broken and I was unable to play specific episodes but the others downloaded at the same time worked fine.  They tried to troubleshoot but failed and just gave me credits to buy the affected episodes again which worked the second time.
