Now I've done it! HA HA HA
« on: January 31, 2011, 09:48:45 PM »
I have unleashed the snowmageddoninator in my attempt to take over the tri-state no great plains no 2/3's of the US. Ha ha ha.

Now you will all bow down to me!

Enjoy and be careful. Unless I get an emergency call. I'm not going anywhere for a couple of days.

Really, I was just watching the semi-local newz. They already have things listed as closed on Thursday.

THURSDAY!

We are only getting a little ice right now. This thing could miss us. Or only dump a few inches.

I like to be prepared but that is stretching things.

I only remember the schools being closed a couple of time growing up, the blizzard of '76 being one, but the other times it pretty much had to dump 12" of snow overnight and they couldn't get the roads plowed in time before school opened.

Now, two flakes fall and the send the kids home early and close the schools for a week.

While I was at the oncologist today, they were rescheduling everyone from Wed and Thursday to Tuesday and Friday.

I may stop in there tomorrow with Lunch for the nurses.  They'll be tired and haggard from trying to treat two days worth of folks in one.

I lost a car in Columbus because of the blizzard of '76.  Long, sorrowful story, that one.

Bogie,

You still in Cat whiz or not ?

If not, you might want to update your profile thingy under the avatar, otherwise we won't know where to send the Red Cross packages.  ;)

Used to be at Cat Whiz... At the moment, I'm at The Compound in south-central Misery... A few hundred yards from Lake of the Ozarks, next to a nicely equipped machine shop.

Not sure where I'll light next. I've got resumes out and about... Until I find something that'll pay some bills, a friend is teaching me about precision machine shop stuff...

If any Red Cross packages went to Cat Whiz... well, she probably ate them.

Curse you Perry the platypus.

You didn't stop the snowmageddoninator in time.

Now I remember one of those unjoys of having a 3/8 mile long driveway.

We are not getting the storms like the midwest here but I can sympathize.  My neighborhood is in a running fight with the city.  The city took over our alley's 2 years ago making them city streets and is now responsible for snow removal (sounds odd but half the driveways including mine go into the alley).  They have never plowed them..  ever.  It is too late now, but for next year we want this done.  There is now so much ice and such a deep rut I quit driving my car because it is trying to high center.  One neighbor did get high centered on the tops of the ruts Sunday and I pulled her out with my truck.  All the normal cars are now parked on the street in front of the houses.

If this crap keeps up I'm going to have to clear some snow off the roof around the furnace vent.

I'm not looking forward to dragging a ladder up in this stuff.

Both my brother and I have ice dams and roof leaks as a result, from the storm two weeks ago. Since then we've had two more storms, the first have of the double whammy has just moved out -- and we're bracing for the second wave (the ice part) even as I type. We have food, I bought gasoline for the generator yesterday, so I think we can hold out -- but I can't help hoping it won't be as bad as they're predicting. It ain't fun dealing with this stuff at my age.

my gutter/roof over the family room is damming. I cleared the snow off the roof leading edge yesterday and I picked up 100 feet of roof deicing wire at Lowes yesterday. I'm not looking forward to the install. I might kluge it until it melts the gutter open

Luckily this is only a 12 foot high roof edge, the rest of the house is fine

You can say that again. I never turned the machine off today.

Now my house, no heat! My wife looks at me, I walk my fat butt down to the shop, I drag a twenty foot ladder up while waking in knee deep snow. Climb up with a long handled hoe and clear the snow from the flue.

Heats going but it's time to go back and throw some wood in the stove. I'm getting tiered. And I left out the septic backing up earlier.

It's been a great day.
