Buenos Aires trip planned. Any suggestions?
« on: March 05, 2011, 11:57:48 AM »
My wife and I are going to Buenos Aires (that is in Argentina - South America, JamisJockey) with a side trip to Mendoza. We are going down the first week of May, which is autumn for them.

We would like to explore the city, enjoy the local food and nightlife, and just get native for a few days.  In Mendoza, we want to load up on good wine.  =D

Any of you have useful information, tips, tricks, ideas, etc?

Thanks.

Go here.  http://ferfal.blogspot.com/  Read.  Search the archives.  Read again.

Change your vacation plans to Nuevo Laredo or Mexico City, where you will be safer and the costs are lower.

Send us pictures of the beach.  Lots of pictures.  Do not include views of sand or ocean in the beach pictures.

The best show in town was the crowd outside the Casa Rosada crying, "Eva Peron".  But that's all gone now...

A couple of years ago, some upper managers at my company went there on business. They were greeted at the airport by a limo, which took them to their hotel. As they were going into the hotel, they saw a couple of guys were talking to their driver, but thought nothing of it.

Next day, their driver shows up, but not in a limo . . . just in a rather ordinary rental car. The guys "talking" to him the day before were actually carjackers, who stole the limo at gunpoint.

Draw your own conclusions.

On the other hand, my dentist just returned from one of those famous Argentine dove-hunting trips and had a GREAT time. In four days, he got over 5000 doves, shooting up 339 boxes of shells at $11/box. (Note that the doves were not wasted, but ended up on SOMEBODY's plate. Certainly MANY plates.)

That was my first thought . . . the idea of shooting the equivalent of over 300 rounds of trap or skeet over 4 days doesn't appeal to me. He said they were shooting Berettas and Benellis, which aren't particularly soft shooting . . . which is why he deliberately chose a 20 rather than a 12.

I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

I worked with a guy from Argentina and he said the BBQ's are something to behold.  You start with a whole cow...and it just gets better from there.  If you go shooting, rent your guns.  You will never see yours again if you bring them.  Chimichurri is what's for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Hope this helps.

If you like beef and/or wine you should be really happy.  I know a couple people that have been and had, without dove hunting, a great time.  Other than that, I got nothing.
Oh, Lord, please let me be as sanctimonious and self-righteous as those around me, so that I may fit in.

Well, you could add a side cruise down to Antarctica.

Thanks, but that is for Brazil. Argentina is a bit south of there.  =D

We like beef, chimichurri, wine, and good food in general, so we should be set there.

No hunting planned this time. No time for a trip to Antarctica, or even Patagonia.
