"Harry Brown", the movie
« on: December 12, 2010, 11:23:24 PM »
I just rented this movie yesterday, despite mixed reviews.

Many reviewers compared the movie to Charles Bronson's "Death Wish" movies, which is true only to the extent that Harry Brown (played by Michael Caine) kills for revenge.

After the first watching, I thought it moved too slowly. On watching it a second time, I felt the quietness of the movie (with the interruptions of violence) built upon Caine's character. Without Michael Caine's acting, the movie would likely be worthless. With his acting, it's a very well-done revenge genre film.

Has anyone else seen it?

I've been meaning to, but with this, that, and the other...

If you liked that you should try the original Get Carter. Just a fantastic movie.

I bought the DVD recently after reading about it on another forum ... but I haven't had time yet to watch it.

Speaking of revenge movies, Payback is great.

Seconded.

I also really liked the recent "Count of Monte Cristo" movie.

I second you right back. I just love that guy that plays the sidekick. He's also in Out of Sight, and some other things I forget.

"Payback" is a bit kitsch, but it's a fun movie (if watching people get killed can be fun).

There's quite a few continuity errors in it, which are always fun to search for.

(Back to the OP) Yes, saw it and really liked it!  Caine is one of my favorite actors and i like watching how older actors adapt and play old people.  Push some too far and watch what happens...

I saw it at the theater and enjoyed it.

Not a revenge movie, but take a look at Michael Caine and Sean Connery in "The Man Who Would be King."

Harry Brown was quite good.  Caine is an actor, regardless of the movie he's in.

In the middle of watching this now. Michael Caine is, as always, spectacular. As a previous poster says, he makes the movie.

The film's depiction of cultural decay is enormously depressing.

Harry Brown is a topshelf vigilante justice flick. i like Bronson as well, but he's not in this league. Caine is at the very top level of living actors, and has been doing great his whole career-he holds his own w/anyone. the pic where he steals the diamonds to payback a health management mogul is another great Caine as 'old' man performance. The Man Who Would be King was Connery and Caine in a double dose of great.
