SAF sues Illinois for carry
« on: May 13, 2011, 02:48:32 PM »
Wisconsin is doing it the right way but, per Say Uncle, Illinois may be dragged kicking and screaming into freedom.

Hopefully this will give some impetus and cover to enough legislators to justify voting for the stalled shall-issue bill simply to avoid the costly court case.

Illinois Carry can push the likely cost of trials and such and pointedly ask Daley and those who voted "no" if it's really worth it given that the majority of the Legislature supports the bill.

Concealed carry; will it play in Peoria?
Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?

Peoria?  Absolutely.

Quote
Mayor Jim Ardis wants to see a push for Peoria to become a pilot city for statewide concealed-carry legislation that would allow people to carry guns in a responsible manner, he said Thursday.

Ardis wants to see legislation passed in Springfield allowing Peoria to enact an ordinance permitting citizens the right to carry a concealed weapon.

Lee beat me too it.  But Peoria was very seriously considering this, until they realized that they would be up against the entire state and Chicago.   Plus the way our constitution was stupidly written back in 1969.

Quote
SECTION 22. RIGHT TO ARMS
Subject only to the police power, the right of the individual citizen to keep and bear arms shall not be
infringed.

Yep, those first six words really screw us.

This lawsuit is, figuratively, the loaded gun pointed at the legislatures' head.  "Pass a Carry bill, one that has the backing of 101 of the 102 Sheriffs (Only Cook County's against it.  This is my shocked face.), The Illinois Chiefs of Police, the Chicago Police Lieutenants Association, and the Chicago Police Sergeants Association.  One that was hammered out with all interested parties (except Chicago, they did not attend nor want to be involved in the drafting/negotiations.) or we'll get the Five Men in Black to explain what the word "bear" means and shove Constitutional Carry down your *expletive deleted*ing throat and you'll get no money from permits (Expected costs to implement a permit system $3mil, Expected revenue the first three years- $30mil).

Having Illinois and Wisconsin go Shall-issue (or better) on top of Wyoming going Constitutional in the same year and the Brady's scorecard will have to be changed... again.

Plus they know that waiting in the wings are, what, 12 states or so with Con Carry bills entered this session and most did well when they got the chance to be voted on?

Montana No Permit passed but was vetoed by a lame duck (who's gone next year, right?)

New Hampshire Con Carry passed their House but is (only)posponed til next year for Senate voting

Utah stalled in committee?

Tennessee another committee trick?

Virginia?
Maine?
Nevada?
Iowa?

How many campus carry bills are gaining as well?

Cam and Company has a great video of the Brady campaign Press Conference releasing their "Scorecards on the States"  Including the free-lance guy the NRS hired, there are FOUR, yes, FOUR people in attendance.  And one looks like he's the photographer from the high school newspaper.

At about the 1 minute mark.

They (being the Anti's) have made Illinois their "Alamo".  They've been getting their but kicked everywhere and the only place they have any chance of getting at least a "hold" is Illinois.  But it's starting to crumble.

The trickle has become a torrent. =D
