I wish cameras still had viewfinders.
DSLRS do, but few if any compact cameras have them. I wish they did.
Doesn't the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 have an oversized sensor for a P&S camera? (and a fast Leica lens?) Most small digital cameras keep coming out with more and more megapixels, but because the sensors are so small the higher resolution just means more noise.
Probably not. I don't recall seeing anything below the DX DSLR level with a larger sensor. Even those new Olympus Pen cameras have a compact camera sensor (fairly large compacts with interchangeable lenses).
You're right about MP and noise though.
FWIW, I ended up getting a Nikon Coolpix S4100. I had a $30 coupon and it was on sale, making the total price $125. I needed portability more than absolute quality and another Nikon meant compatibility with my existing cables. Plus, I won't cry if I break a $125 camera while biking, but breaking a $200+ camera would royally suck.
