I'm doing some research about Historic Courthouses in TX. It would save me cell time and regular time if you could let me know if your county's courthouse is lit at night.
Thanks, I really appreciate it.

Good question.

I'll have to look and see if the current Nueces county courthouse is illuminated at night.

The historic courthouse still stands (so far), but nighttime illumination comes and goes depending on who's in charge of the preservation efforts and how fat their wallet is.

I am 99% Sure that the San Marcos Courthouse is illuminated at night (Its in a bar area and i believe that spotlights are pointed onto it..)  Its sad that I don't know for sure if my own City has an illminated courthouse but I do know:

Seguin and Johnson City are illuminated.

Holly,

You should see the courthouse in Taylor during the Christmas season...it's got an insane number of Christmas lights outside.

I think it's lit at night usually too.  I don't live in Taylor...just drive through there and past the courthouse pretty often.

Thank you All for responding.

Parker, IIRC, the current cthse for Nueces is a box. I'm only going to do pic of the historic cthses. Anything built after around 1940, tends to be an aesthetically unpleasing box. As time progresses the "boxes" get uglier and uglier to those of us who prefer the historic styles of Texas Renassaince, Romanesque Revival and 2nd Empire.
I'm going to try to include nighttime pics if the cthse is lit at night.

Thanks again for the info.

IIRC, the new Hill county courthouse in Hillsboro is illuminated but I'd have to ask my dad.  If I remember this week when I call him, I'll ask.

Gregg County's (Longview) courthouse is lit at night (it's butt-ugly, though- kind of looks like a 6 story bunker). Harrison County's (Marshall) courthouse is also lit at night- especially during the holidays. I believe Upshur County's courthouse is lit also (Gilmer- home of the Yamboree).

If Old Red in Dallas isn't lit, I imagine they'll scrape together private funds to do so one of these days.

Seems to me that I've seen a poster put out by TxDPS/TxDOT showing daylight photos of all 254 courthouses. I'll drag by the local tax office where I think I saw it and I'll see if I can pull a form number and see if I can get that info to you.  Might help eliminate the wheat from the chaff for you.

Edited to add: Found it! Man, I love Google.

Some good pics but daylight hours.  Haven't found one at night but been down there at night and I know it's pretty well lit (at least I was).

I checked tonight, and the Bastrop County courthouse is lit.  I hope that's helpful.  But I'm curious.  Why do you want to know?

OK, went downtown and found that the 1977 Nueces County courthouse IS lit at night. Sorta. They just light the corners of the tower and none of the window area. Weird.

The 1914 courthouse is NOT lit. Looks like a construction zone, though.

I then popped over to Sinton and found that the San Patricio courthouse IS lit. This was 10pm exactly.

Thinking about doing a night drive and checking out Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells, Kennedy, and Kleburg sometime in the next couple of weeks. If I get real ambitous I may check out Refugio, Goliad, Aransas and some others to the North later on.

The Comal Co (New Braunfels) courthouse is illuminated at night.  It is also real pretty at Christmastime with hanging strings of white lights.

Bosque County Courthouse has some lights on it, but I wouldn't call it "lit"
