It has more capacity than HMMVs, and is cheaper than a Stryker.

I want one!

That driver side door is horrendously exposed. Hmmm. Yes, I think I could have done a better job than that.  >:D

Looks like an A-Team creation, except for the lousy paint job.

Many of them have a big trailer hitch on the front for a tow vehicle.

The engines/drivetrain and suspension aren't up to all the armor they weld onto them, so they're a very short-range prospect for rolling up on the initial assault on whatever/whoever they're looking to take out.

None of these guys are going to be getting a job at Oshkosh Truck on the MRAP lines any time soon.  =D

I think I would have started with a F350.

ditto.

Kinda of like the storm chaser car... start with a big diesel motor, frame, and 4x4 system designed for towing.

Ford does make F-models higher than the -350... =D

Meh... I'm unimpressed.  I don't see an f150 super duty on Ford's website, so maybe the reporter is clueless.  That would be a shock.

They'd do better stealing a Brink's truck.

Seriously, raise your hand if you have what you'd need to knock that thing out within arm's reach.  A secret weapon like a water balloon full of semi-gloss would turn that into an out of control heap of steaming radiator and peeled tires inside 30 seconds.  Heck, just one ATF-supplied .50 cal rifle would blast through the front end of that thing and rip through the occupants like the Luger from the third Indiana Jones movie.  Or maybe that was a Walther.  I dont remember.

AJ is right.  None of these geniuses are in any danger of being poached by General Dynamics any time soon.

*Raises hand.* Got glass bottles, rags, and gasoline and diesel fuel nearby, too, to turn it into a crematorium...

"Drug gangs are crafting armored "narcotanks" in order to battle the Mexican military--and each other. "

Nonsense.  President Obama says they're getting them from gun show parking lots here in the US.

Obviously bought it at a gun show in the US.

Did the reporter edit the article?   It now says it's a F-350.:

Quote
Authorities in Jalisco, Mexico, recently seized this tricked-out 2011 Ford F-350 Super Duty truck

Does that have a strong enough suspension and drive train to handle the weight?

Probably so.  I run trucks like that, and in the winter with plow, salt spreader and salt, they easily handle double their empty weight.

I'd question if it was distributed correctly though.  [tinfoil]

Good point.  Suspensions are upgradeable to handle more weight, though.

I don't think the narcoterrorists care about points such as that...
