« on: June 16, 2011, 06:11:23 PM »
got turned in to cops for "animal abuse" .  reason?  dog was in my car yesterday morning and "there's a law against it"  outside temp at time of offense 68   all four windows 1/2 way down.  and surprisingly it was a male, notice i did not say man. he came up and whined to me while i was eating breakfast and apparently was miffed that i didn't reply  just looked at him till he went away. i am very glad i still had my receipt from steak and shake with the time on it. i do hope to see the sob again soon

years ago, on a hot summer day, a friend of mine was waiting for her husband by sitting in their car with their two large dogs.  The windows were down and the dogs had water.  Remember, friend was in the car with them...

She had a lady berate her over having the dogs in the car on a hot day like that.  Her reply was that they were better off than her at the moment (had water, remember).

thye sent a cop and an animal control guy to see me.  small town. they were embarrassed but they had to fill out the report.  one sad thing is that almost never does someone get nailed for a false report.  the busybody claimed all my jeep windows were up. i wish it were possible  one window has been down and broken for more than a month have paperwork to prove it and they were able to verify that

I live in FL.

I sometimes need to stop at a store or something with my two German Shepherds in the car.  My SOP for those trips is to leave my truck running, AC on full blast, and windows up with the dogs in it.  Run in and do what I need to and then get out. Twice now (I've probably done it 15-17 times in the last 5 years) I've come out to find a busybody and a LEO getting ready to write a ticket.  Both times the LEO looked sheepish and the busy body was irate.  Both times I told the annoying little twit that the temperature in my truck was a cool 70 or so degrees.

Then I smile, look at my two 70lb Shepherds, and tell the busybody if he doesn't believe that he's welcome to open the door to the truck and check the interior temp.

For some reason neither took me up on it.

It's also been my experience that these kind of tools own little yappy dogs.

In the old days, mom left us kids in the car when she went in the store. It didn't matter how hot it was.

But it was that or get a beating when we screwed up. And we were sure to screw up at least once on a trip through the store.

Every law ought to have an expiration date.  Not to exceed five years.

Busybodies name and address should be on the report.  File a counter-report for Public Nuisance.  Cite intentional misrepresentation of facts with intent to defame (saying the windows were up when they obviously weren't, doing so to apparently retaliate rather than report).

Get a life-like baby doll and a baby car seat for the next time he walks by your Jeep.  Maybe he will drop dead of a heart attack.

Years ago I smashed the window out of a car to get at the dog that was in obvious distress because AH owner had left it with the windows cracked.

Someone had already called the police but no one was doing anything other than standing around.

Unfortunately the dog was already dead.

I think that's probably the closest I have ever been to killing someone.

Then I guess he'd have me off to jail, when I had my dog in there with the windows all the way down in 80* heat when I went to get lunch.

Heh, my big treat when I was a little kid was to be able to sit in the car while my mom went shopping (I had the makings of an anti-people hermit even at the tender age of 7). She'd leave the keys in the car so I could fiddle with the radio, and I think we both considered ourselves better off. :)   Of course that was back in the day when snatching children was a rare occurrence.

My dog loves sitting in the car. When she was younger, my dad would drive her around the farm in his truck. She loved being in the truck so much that when it was parked, she would jump through the window to get in it, and you'd walk out to look for her and find her sitting in the drivers seat waiting for a ride.

Childseats are those things behind the seats in the front right behind the plastic-covered steel dashboard.  They're what Dad turned around and gave the evil eye to when asking if he really needed to stop the car.

As for seatbelts, if I remember correctly it was what Dad took off, risking his trousers dropping to around his ankles while he applied the belt to the seat of our britches.

dad could swat ya in any seat you sat in   unless you rode as cargo in the back of the station wagon.  but dad only whacked you once.  mom had to stop car to beat you so she made sure to beat you enough to last a while while muttering angrily in japanese

Wimp.

Mom was the official belt wielder in our family. And there were no britches involved. The belt was applied to the seat of our sitter. I suppose in today's world Mom would be a felon in short order for cororal punishment, but none of her kids turned into felons, whereas too many of today's products on "enlightened" parenting come of age with no sense of right and wrong, other than an uncanny ability to always choose "wrong" when given an opportunity.

As kids, we always sat in the car when mom was shopping.  Air conditioning only happened at the movies, high end restaurants, and rich people's homes.  Nothing else was air conditioned unless you called opening the window conditioning the air......Funny thing about hot cars.  Here in Texas black cars are very popular.  Ever sat in a hot black car when it is over 100 degrees out?  My white car is hot enough until the a/c gets going.....chris3

Do it anyway. Mail him a copy of the charge just to mess with his mind. He filed a false report with the police -- that's a criminal offense. Making him aware of that might (but probably won't) cause him to think twice before making up facts in an official complaint the next time.

And knowing there's an outstanding charge against him might keep him out of your neighborhood ...
