In depth article in Google moving into social media

While I approve of Facebook getting some competition, I'll also wary of Google attempting to go all MS and take over the world. http://m.wired.com/epicenter/2011/06/inside-google-plus-social/

Microsoft failed to do so. So will Google.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Google missed the boat with Facebook, and they're trying to catch up. They don't seem to be doing well at it.

It's mainly of concern to me because 1. Google has deep pockets and is (according to the article) betting the farm on this & 2. they tend to have invasive privacy issues, and unlike FB can get huge amounts of info that you do not specifically authorize them to use (search history, email tracking etc).

They do much more than track search history. They'll take a Google user at random and track his movements across the internet.
