I knew I should have grabbed all those downed willow branches I saw the other day, and ordered potassium nitrate and sulfur.  

7000gr BP/pound.  120gr/shot, and I have a LOT of old driving range golf balls...  =D

Duh.  Haven't been reloading in a while.  Forgot there's 7000gr per pound of powder, whether that's Holy Black or the newfangled smokeless stuff!!!

We sent about a dozen balls downrange. They're damn hard to see, but a few folks managed. I have significantly more respect for golf camera crews.
 
Gonna sell the tubes for about $125 with the trunnion bolts, and I'm working on trying organize material for some carriages. Just ordered a buncha steel for muzzle brakes. Being broke sucks.

I generally can't see where a golf ball goes when I hit it with a golf club.  I usually just head for the long grass, trees, water or swamp.  It I can't find mine, I usually come up with a couple other balls.

We are guesstimating that we were getting around 400 yards, depending on wind... The one you see in the vid is fixed at 60 degrees elevation, and we were getting plenty of hang time.
 
Just bored the tube on another. Considering that it starts as a solid round hunka steel, that takes a little...

Just out of curiosity, with a lathe the size of a Cadillac, wouldn't a bowling ball mortar be more to your liking? I gues that reuires a li'l bit bigger piece of round stock though.  :O

Bogie, have you tried attaching a streamer to the "spheroid dimpled projectile?"  It might be easier to see the ball and even recover it.

Some of the time I wonder how I survived this long.

Soljers do stupid stuff. That's why they have 2nd LTs to chew 'em out. Which doesn't do much for either party, but hey. It's the Army. So do it.
 
Next project will be possibly a tennis ball cannon, a beer can mortar, or maybe a beer can cannon.

It was what is commonly referred to as a "1/4 Stick".  "Pineapple" and "Ashcan" are other names we used to call them.

we would take duct tape balls and launch them out of like 2" pipe with M-80s. We got some good hang time too.  >:D

THEN, there was the time the drummer broke his brand new Zildjan crash cymbal and we put it over an m-80 with the fuse sticking through the hole. It went striaght up in the air just like a flying saucer, cleared five stories and hung there about 3 seconds before it came crashing down. Some one yelled, That was cool! Let's do it again!" and from out of the dark came back, "You better not or I'm calling the COPS!!"  :lol:

Yes, it is also a wonder how I survived this far. Guardian Angel maybe.  Catholics get those. ;)

We put one of the 1/4-sticks under one of those jumbo-sized coffee cans.  When it went off the can only appeared to jump about 5 feet in the air.  Everyone groaned in disappointment and we went over to inspect the can.  My uncle picked it up and looked at me through the can, which was missing the bottom and now just a tube.  Then we all looked up to see the can bottom still coming down to earth.  it landed on the deck about 100 feet away, which happened to be where everyone was watching from.  No one was hit though.
