One of the best political cartoons I've seen . . .
« on: September 05, 2011, 04:47:01 PM »
This one appeared in today's Austin American-Stateman . . . wonder how it got past the editor.

Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

It'd be more accurate if it showed Perry shooting the bull....
Impressed yet befogged, they grasped at his vivid leading phrases, seeing only their surface meaning, and missing the deeper current of his thought.

I thought that Perry had created jobs in Texas .... why would anyone want to say the cartoon should have shown him "shooting" the bull?

There are some bitterly anti-Perry Texans about in the land.

Not quite sure what it is with the bitterly anti-Perry folks on the right.

I moved to Texas in 1999 and saw the tail-end of W and the entirety of Perry's terms as governor.  Perry ought not get all the credit for the Texas economic performance, as that is the work of Texas's people.  But, Perry rightly deserves the credit for not killing the economy and for screwing with it less than most any other governor I have seen (I have lived in 9 different states, some repeats).  In viable presidential candidate terms, he's a *expletive deleted*ing miracle worker of inactivism in not killing the golden goose.

Perry is not my favorite policritter.  For instance, I voted for Medina in the TXgov GOP primary.  I think he is (insincerely) born-again hard on the border & immigration.  He has screwed the pooch on a few issues, but backed off when folks got riled up.  That latter bit is important, as any POTUS in the White House will need some (sincerely) born-again-hard Tea Party types to keep them on the wagon.

I'd like to know who else in teh GOP primary is better?  I like Bachman a whole lot, she has great principles & rhetoric, but no record of actually putting her principles into practical measures as Perry has.  Romney makes me laugh.  The rest fo the crowd are also-rans, no matter how much they might tickle our fancy.

Tell the truth, anti-Perry Texans.  You really want John Anderson Huntsman for POTUS.

Same could be said of the current White House occupent.

That would depend on who you ask.

Not when most of his rhetoric translates as "I'm going to **** you".

Perry isn't perfect - he's made a few serious blunders (like signing a bill that grants tuition discounts to illegal aliens   ) and he's far too fond of toll roads, but he's pro-gun, has come right out and said the GOP ought not pander to people who will NEVER vote for them anyway, and opposes a state income tax.

As I see it, with Perry, I'll get about 2/3 of what I want. Romney - less than half. Bachman, probably 90%. Gingrich is all over the map, Cain is fading, I don't want Ron Paul anywhere near the oval office, and Huntsman is running in the wrong party's primary.

None would be as bad as Obama.

This....it also explains why he has a pro-2A "stance" when all he's done is sign the pro-2A bills the Legislature send him....yet he doesn't push any pro-2A legislation or positions....in fact, his "position" on campus carry has been a painful silence....

Despite his campaign promises, you shouldn't expect much action from a Perry presidency...esp. when action to deconstruct all the anti-Constitution work of the last two decades is needed....

BTW, I can't stand Huntsman....I'd rather see Bachmann or Cain in office....heck, I'd probably vote for Palin before Perry....at least she bucked her state legislature a time or two....

Ayup.

That makes it really important to elect decent congresscriters.

And relying on that gets us our "solutions" dictated by the Maine twins. I'd prefer someone who leads rather than goes along with the legislature.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

So, who is this paragon of (small-r) republican virtue?  All I see is Perry, Bachman, Romney, and a few pygmies.

Huh?

"There are already guns on campus. All too often they are illegal," Republican Gov. Rick Perry said. "I want there to be legal guns on campus. I think it makes sense — and all of the data supports — that if law abiding, well-trained, backgrounded individuals have a weapon, then there will be less crime."
