"only" $2.69 here-abouts, but that is still ridiculous because there is a dang crude oil pipeline running about 100 yards east of my property line

and I heard that the oil companies are paying $75/barrel for Arab oil, but only $25-$35/barrel to the local producers Sad

it runs on unleaded, the model i'm buying tops out at about 42 mph.
The bigger ones still get great milage and can go around 70 mph.
Kawaski makes some great Duel Purpose bikes, AKA street legal Dirt Bikes!

Take the bike to work or school , every day unless it rains, great way to have fun and help reduce the emissions of green house gasses, so hopefully one day we'll all freeze!

Then you too can discover the joy of getting up 3 hours early for work to shovel out a foot and a 1/2 of snow from your driveway so that you can get to work, then come home to a 2' pile of slushy snow at the approach of your driveway that the plow left for you. I'm solidly in the 'cheering for warming' camp.

The milk is still a better deal for me; it fills me for hours, from which I can manufacture hours of methane (a little high in sulfur, alas).  Shocked

I get 50-70 mpg on my Ninja 250 depending on how I'm riding it. It can do highway speeds and is quite capable in all sorts of riding situations. I would guess that the only downside is that the insurance is higher than a scooter.

I'd be more than willing to get a motorcycle for my commuting vehicle, except for one thing... I don't trust my balance and reflex time on a 2-wheeled vehicle.

Most highways require a minimum of a 125cc engine to be legal.  My Kawasaki Ninja 500 gets 55+ mph and tops out around 120mph.

Some MSF schools offer a scooter safety class too.  Might want to look into that.

Mike,

Maybe you could get some of those outrigger-type training wheels.

Yeah, and maybe I could clothspin some playing cards to the front wheel.

Yup.  How 'bout a Speed Triple?  (No, that goes against my engine size recommendation for you!)

Almost as cool as left handed Rickenbacker bass guitars.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

Left handed Ricks aren't as cool as right handed ones played upside down. smiley

That reminds me. The rumor mill claims (with some spy shots to confirm) that there will be a new "baby triple" based on the D-675. I can barely keep my breath when I think about how much I want *that* machine, it may be my first brand new bike.
