Cautiously optimistic
« on: September 15, 2011, 11:27:43 PM »
I guess a bunch of people saw this on fb, and I'm kind of afraid to even say it, much less type it, but I have a job.

It ain't permanent and the benefits suck, and it's widely regarded as bottom-of-the-barrel mindless drone work, but I have a job.  For close to a year, if all goes well.

I personally don't regard as crap work, because I'm interested in building a career in the field (legal doc. review, long term interest in coordinating/managing discovery and related legal doc/project management stuff) and need more experience at the ground floor to support all the other things I'm working on towards making a real living at it.  And it's limited to 40 hours a week, which is awfully nice, considering the kids and all.

It starts next week.  I'm nervous.  After all, about a month ago I had a temp job lined up, albeit a much shorter one with lower pay, and it was cancelled less than an hour before it was slated to begin.  This one is less shaky, but I'm still awfully nervous.  Especially because with kids, getting daycare and all that lined up is not cheap, and I'm borrowing money to cover it.  Just like last time.  Mounting debt is so much fun....

But, this one is very unlikely to be randomly cancelled, whereas I knew the last one was likely to settle at some point.

Knowledge is power, and will also make you dangerous! You will do well.
Remember to brush and floss that first day, and you will succeed! Big smile!  =D

Throw a half-empty box of Tic-Tacs in your pocket, then try walk through the office without making noise.
I'll bet that you will forget about the nervousness as you try and walk like a ninja that first day!

Oh, I'm not nervous about the job itself at all, I'm ridiculously good at it, way better than just about everybody else.  Just nervous about it actually happening.  Having a job disappear thirty minutes before it started has seriously spooked me.

Sara,

I'm thrilled beyond words.

Go knock 'em dead.

Oh, and come back to this thread in about 6 months or so and bitch about how much work sucks, you hate your boss and your stupid cow-orkers. (yes, that was intentional).

It's good to see some of our little gang getting some much-needed (and deserved!) breaks.  Go get 'em Sara.  Make them realize how lucky they are to have found you.

Congrats, BR.  Go get 'em!  In a few years you'll be running the joint.

Congrats, Bridgy.

Have you considered saving the Benjamins generated by this job and "investing" them in moving you and your chilluns away from Michigan and to a more work-friendly State?

awesome!
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.
