Okay, I'm on a public wireless system and my e-mail system is sending out viagra and porno e-mails (if I have your email address, my apologies).

Suggestions and recommendations to go dig in and kill it?

Didn't you just get rid of a virus problem?  Maybe it left a backdoor and got infected again that way.

I don't use it on every insecure network, but it's nice to have available.  You might even look at setting it up just for a different user account on your machine so you can log into that one when you want to use it, or install Xubuntu or similar to a flash drive and boot from that when you want anonymity and secure comms.
