  • I spent a week in that town one night....
Yep, they are everywhere.
« on: September 19, 2011, 03:59:29 PM »
Allow me to set the stage.

The past two Sunday's my club has offered a Hunter Safety Ed class.  I taught at Part One two weeks ago, but missed yesterday because Robert and I were at the Zombie Shoot.

The class is taught at the Clinton Township Community Center in Waterman, IL.  Waterman is a town of 1200 people on US 30 in southern Dekalb County.  There is ONE stop light.  There are no buildings on the south side of US30, because the BNSF railroad parallels US30 through town.  On the north side of US30 there are six buildings. Francesca's Italian Restaurant, The Clinton Township Community Center, The Waterman Historical Society, Houlahan's Bar, The Waterman State Bank and Superior Diesel Repair.

That's it.  You blink and you miss the town.
So Behold the following e-mail exchange:

Quote
From: <redacted>
Date: Sun, 18 Sep 2011 21:30:58 +0000 (UTC)
To: Me and couple other Hunter Ed Instructors
Subject: September 18th class

Gentlemen, if you are wondering why I am not in attendance, allow me to explain a few things.

I checked my emails this morning before leaving the house.  No correspondence.  I arrived at the Clinton Township Community Center, 144 W. Lincoln Highway, Waterman, IL at 2:30PM sharp.  I hauled my gear through the rain to the building and found both doors locked and the lights out.  Back through the rain to the truck, and I came home.

I would like to thank you for a 140 mile round trip, a half tank of gas, and a wasted afternoon.

Dumb ass Instructor

Here's my response, and I expect I'm going to get "a good talking to " from the IL DNR Volunteer Instructor Coordinator.

Quote
Dear Dumb ass Instructor,

Over 120 students managed to find their way into the Clinton Township Community Center, along with six certified Hunter Ed Instructors, four Student Instructors and a Conservation Police Officer.  So, I'm not sure where you thought you were, but you were not there.  Had you arrived earlier in the day (before the class started at noon), to help with administration of the class (The paperwork and simply to be available to talk with the students to answer questions during breaks, etc.)  you would have been able to follow the crowd and find your way into the building.  I'm also surprised that you didn't bother to call anyone to explain your predicament since you obviously were lost.

In closing, if you can't find you way to the Hunter Ed Class in lovely downtown Waterman, IL, perhaps you shouldn't go out in the woods.

Well, there's your problem: He was at the Hillary Clinton center, and you were at the Bill Clinton center.  The difference between the two is that the Bill Center is open to all comers while the Hillary Center is locked up tight.

Reminds me of the time I was on a business trip in Portland and saw a businesswoman haranguing the clerks at the front desk of the Hilton because they couldn't direct her to the business meeting she was to attend.

This happened in Portland, Maine.

Her meeting was scheduled for the Hilton in Portland, Oregon.

The thing is, this businesswoman was being VERY abusive to the hotel clerks . . . so much so that I felt a need to say something to her as she stormed away:

"Ma'am, don't worry, your navigation was only off by 3000 miles . . . that's not bad for a woman."  (With apologies to the ladies of APF, none of whom I'd met online at the time.   )

But still the same continent. Let's try something a little further away from right.  =D

In 2006 and 2008 a German tourist (not the same one) ended up in Sydney, Montana instead of Sydney, Australia.

I guess they figured that little prop job was going to make a few refueling stops on the way to Australia!

Not quite as bad, but my mother-in-law went to Nashville instead of Knoxville. What made it funny, if not sad, is that she is married to a pilot and she has be flying around as a non-rev for years.

I can't stand people that are abusive to folks like that.  It's not their fault you're an idiot.

But next time film it for youtube.....

I hate abusive and/or rude people.

This past Sunday, the wife and I went to a nice little shopping center in Manchester called Evergreen Walk.  There is a long road thru it with all kinds of little shops.  Popular place if one were to believe the number of shoppers is proof.  Anyway, my wife wanted to check out a store so I told her I'd be outside having a cigarette.

I look around and spot a bench down a side street about 12 yards from the crowd moving up and down the main sidewalk.  I go and sit and light up.  No one remotely close to me.  Eventually, some woman walking across the street spotted me engaging in the evil deed (she had to be a good 18 to 20 yards away when she spotted me).  She walked all the way down to the bench I'm sitting on and says,"Smoking is a disgusting and nasty habit- you should be arrested."

I looked at her and said, "You're right; it is a nasty habit.... but just like being a rude b****, it's not against the law so neither one of us will be getting arrested today."

Her male companion laughed.... she got mad.  Go figure.

Was there in the winter and yes, it was frozen over.  I'll take responsibility for that !!
