18 y.o, so he is of age. The rifle was in his car trunk, unloaded. New Mexico has an extended domain law, essentially what is legal to do in your home is legal to do in your car. Within reason. Loaded, concealed firearm in your car is legal in N.M. without a CCL.

Problem is, he went on a school campus, and then started running his mouth. Not very prudent.

Wonder how this will pan out; which law will prevail.

He is hosed.  Guns on school grounds are a no-no.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

With a good attorney and a jury trial? I think he at least has a chance.

I wouldn't take that bet if I was you.

yea  don't loan him money you need back
It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

So, consensus is he's had it. I'll buy that. Still going to watch as closely as I can.

State law versus state law maybe he has a shot but the Fed GFSZA doesn't have any exception for this if it wasn't unloaded -and- in a locked container (locked trunk doesn't count as a container, AFAIK).

Not an ideal case but the amended GFSZA after Lopez hasn't really had a head-to-head challenge from an otherwise law-abider that's been appealable.
