P;ums. I love plums.
« on: June 19, 2012, 04:30:25 PM »
First plums of the season are here. Sweet and juicy and perfect. Probably my favorite fruit behind melon of various types.

I love plumes, too!  Feather dusters, peacocks, native American headdresses...

Or did you mean Valerie Plame?  'Cause she's an embarrassment to the CIA.  Not cool, man.  Not cool.

This reminds me of a rhyme MaMa would recite for little Tuco.
....clears throat....

Little Jack Horner sat in a corner eating his Christmas pie
He stuck in his thumb and pulled out a plum and said
 "Ain't that a peach"

I was in the store the other day. One supplier offered prunes, the other offered dried plums. I wasn't sure what to do at that point. I mean, how do you decide?  ???

I would buy the prunes.  I regard "dried plum" to be a marketing ploy to which I choose not to be party.

Oh, groan. Still a pretty decent pun. Well done.

One of the vendors at the farmers market I sell at had plums a couple weeks ago. After we ate our fill and froze a couple quarts we made plum jelly, 15 pints. Life is good. I also picked my first 2 cantelopes this morning, all gone now.
I've got about 1/4 acre I'm thinking about clearing to make room for fruit trees. Plums are definitely on the short list.

And cherries? Cherries too, right Larry?

I love plums, too. I still have 6 gallons of plum wine left to bottle.

That, or "condense" it into a smaller quantity of plum brandy.   =D

Actually yes, but I haven't given much thought as to variety or type.
I should have room for 8-10 trees in the area I want to clear, leaning towards plums, cherries and pears and maybe apple.

Back to plums, my daughter showed up just before noon with 8 gallons of fresh picked plums and her and the Mrs. went to canning.
