Quote
Fire officials in California say at least 21 people were treated for burns after attendees of an event for motivational speaker Tony Robbins tried to walk on hot coals.

Snort - no kidding - ya think!?

I'll pass on this kind of stupidity.....

Of course, I am sure that disclaimers were required, and there is no refund for the stupid injured.

And this happened in California.

What a surprise.

Maybe they ought to put little safety alert stickers on individual coal bricketts...... [tinfoil]

One time on a dive trip to Hawaii, the plane was full of Robbins "students" on their way to his seminar. I was unlucky enough to have one of them sit next to me and basically give me the nonstop Robbins spiel all the way to the Kailua airport.

Then to add insult to injury, a bunch of them showed up on the dive boat I'd chartered. Similar to the walking on coals thing, he got a bunch of his students who were afraid of the water to go on their first ever scuba dive. I got lucky in that I'd been diving with this outfit for over ten years and they knew me well, so the guides let me get in the water and go off on my own to avoid the catastrophe in the making. When I got back and was doing my safety stop, students were still flailing around in the water, with instructors having to actually hold on to a couple of them several times so they didn't shoot to the surface in a panic and embolize. The clown music from the circus would have been an appropriate background.

So is Robbins a total mess, or does he just attract losers looking for the magic cure to loser-ness?

Yes
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

God must love stupid people (s)he sure made an awful  lot of them.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Apparently, like Adam, they didn't let it burn down so there was nice layer of ash, and walk, not run across.

When I was four or five, I came across what I thought were the cooled ashes of a leaf fire.

I thought walking through them would be fun, so I tried.

Bad mistake.  Neighbors heard my screams, carried me home, and then to the doctor's home office.

I have not been terribly keen on the idea of fire walking since despite having read of the science.

Yep, some of us actually learn a lesson or two before it is too late.  =D

(I do concede the possibility that I haven't yet learned all such lessons I will someday need.)

Edit:  It occurs to me that at age 70+ I have survived the years that are Darwin relevant!
