stops interview for our anthem
« on: August 06, 2012, 03:41:17 PM »
It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Nice. My natural cynicism gets a short break. If respect is old-fashioned I'm right there with you.

Some have it, some don't.  His mother should be proud of her son.

Good for him.  Where did the barking dog come from...or was that a Romanian gymnast?

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Isn't Jamaica a British commonwealth nation? Good on him for being respectful, but I think more likely he was being respectful toward's "God save the Queen" than "Oh say can you see..".

Uh.. God Save the Queen has the melody of "My Country 'Tis of Thee"

Having been to Jamaica a coupla times in the last 14 months, I can tell you that Usain Bolt is a local rockstar/deity down there.  I would not have been surprised if the fame had robbed him of his will to train and excel.  Nope.  Set the new world's record in the 100m.  I do not have a vocabulary that permits me to express my admiration for his class, grace, and presence.

Thank you, sir.

Good for him!  That kind of stuff is what the Olympics are all about.  Am I the only one who thought the US sprinter they were showing on the left side of the screen was hot?
