Quote
The Utah Highway Patrol reported stopping Larry Treadaway, 61, Wednesday evening in his pickup truck traveling westbound on Interstate 80 for a turn signal violation and following a vehicle at an unsafe distance, according to a statement of probable cause. A drug-sniffing dog then indicated it smelled narcotics in Treadaway's vehicle, according to the statement, and a subsequent search found $500,000 in cash and marijuana shake inside an external fuel tank in the bed of the pickup truck.

I'm so glad this menacing dangerous criminal is no longer a threat to government sense of arbitrary control society.

That would be my guess as well.  Or do Utah Highway Patrol officers always have drug-sniffing dogs with them?

P.S.: the suspect is from Humboldt County, California, a major marijuana-growing region.

It's quite possible that a k-9 unit made the initial stop

Of course they could be profiling based on California plates on a pick up truck.

What is marijuana shake?  ???  I'm a pretty big fan of milk shakes (about 250 pounds big), but that sounds nasty.

From a growing perspective shake refers to the trimmings (generally water leaves) of the female cannabis plant.  From a dealer/user perspective, it often refers to small bits of flowers that have flaked off.

Indeed.  As I explained to a friend; You can either do stupid, illegal things inside the car, or stupid illegal things with the car.  Never both.

All the time, though I think it is usually one of those things they don't bother with unless they suspect something else.

IF marijuana were legal, the cops might still pull him over if he was doing something suspicious and I bet they would still confiscate the money which is a whole other issue.

However, if he was transporting moonshine or bootleg tobacco, it would still be illegal.  If they ever legalize pot, you can bet the govt will regulate it and home growing will be limited to personal use only.
