Grandfather kills leopard with his hands

A 73-year-old Kenyan grandfather reached into the mouth of an attacking leopard and tore out its tongue to kill it, authorities said Wednesday.

Peasant farmer Daniel M'Mburugu was tending to his potato and bean crops in a rural area near Mount Kenya when the leopard charged out of the long grass and leapt on him.

M'Mburugu had a machete in one hand but dropped that to thrust his fist down the leopard's mouth. He gradually managed to pull out the animal's tongue, leaving it in its death-throes.

"It let out a blood-curdling snarl that made the birds stop chirping," he told the daily Standard newspaper of how the leopard came at him and knocked him over.

The leopard sank its teeth into the farmer's wrist and mauled him with its claws. "A voice, which must have come from God, whispered to me to drop the panga (machete) and thrust my hand in its wide open mouth. I obeyed," M'Mburugu said.

As the leopard was dying, a neighbor heard the screams and arrived to finish it off with a machete.

M'Mburugu was toasted as a hero in his village Kihato after the incident earlier this month. He was also given free hospital treatment by astonished local authorities.

"This guy is very lucky to be alive," Kenya Wildlife Service official Connie Maina told Reuters, confirming details of the incident.

Sorry to do this, but that whole image thing - you know.

Hmmmmm....Nope.  I'll not bow to PC foolishness.  If the reader finds offensive connotations, they should look within themselves for the fault, rather than without.

No, I am not an upright, talking monkey.  I am a human; not an oxymoron.

So long as we cleared-up any confusion for the outsider who stumbles into the forum.

Good for you, Sindawe!

Fistful, why'd you have to (try to) spoil this great post and Sindawe's literate response, with that PC crap?

We can hardly say anything, anymore, without some sorehead taking offence.

I say, if it offends you, get over it!  Perhaps you can develope some positive attitudes about life and living.

Matis,

Why must you spoil this great thread with psychobabble?  Or is that just what it's like to be "positive"?

Or I could ask, why must someone spoil this great thread with an innocent comment that could be so easily misunderstood as racism, when we gun-nuts are already seen as racist rednecks?  In case some of you are not aware, the term "monkey" has frequently been used as derogatory slang for Blacks.  While I understood that the comment refferred to human beings generally, others might take it for racism and that hurts us politically.

I thought one of the aims of The High Road and the Polite Society was to improve the image of gunnies by keeping things polite and on the high road.  Excuse me.

People who want to find racism and offense will find it not matter WHAT another person does.  Its just a fact of life.  I long ago stopped giving a hoot about PCness and worrying about what some stranger may think.  Life is too freaking short and fragile to be concerned with bluenoses and their ilk.  Those who would find offense in my innocent comments, well, they can just go frell themselves.

fistful: Technically, you are correct.  You are not an upright, talking monkey.  You're an obligatorily bipedial talking ape.  Monkeys usually have tails.

Thanks, Sindawe, you saved me the trouble of answering this nonsense.

This PC crap derives mainly from a misapprehension about human nature:  That it can be "improved" and should be.  Instead of "removing the mote" from the own eyes, the PCers want to do that to the rest of us.

Which leads to what I believe is the main force behind the PC movement: to control what others say and think according to the nonsensical, or sinister, notions of the PCers.

Janitors are sanitary engineers, cripples are variously challenged, etc.

Goes well with the notion that competition is bad, that score should not be kept in games, that sutpid is a good enough spelling for stupid -- just so we don't hurt the sensitive little flowers feelings.  (False) self-esteem above  everything else including competence.  Being "nice" trumps facing the truth.

Years ago I read a story in a great rag (monthly), THE REALIST, put out by Paul Krassner.  A reporter had quit his job because his editor objected to his saying that the local school now offered the 4 'R's.  He was writing about a series of rapes at the school.  His editor didn't want him to use the word "rape".

The reporter ended his letter of resignation by saying to his editor, "And if you don't like it, you can go be intimate with yourself".

My sentiments, exactly.

Remember; the more innocent and unimportant the subject matter of a thread, the more likely it is to become an argument.

Yes, Matis, total control.  Thanks for a good laugh.

This has become childish, but we should all be used to that by now.

Isn't there a difference between being politically correct and just trying to avoid misunderstandings?  It is not as if I asked Sindawe to change "monkeys" to "African - Kenyans," or some other six-syllable hyphenated word that supposedly confers respect.  As a gun-toting, sexist, Christian fundamentalist, I abhor such left-wing sanctimony.  It is not the sensibilities of others that has concerned me here, but the image of ostensible gun-owners chatting in a public forum.

In any case, Sindawe has explained the remark, so I have won.

Very dramatic, but what are you talking about?

The victory I claim yet again is merely that the remark has been explained so that any non-gunner stumbling across the forum knows how it was intended.

Jewish posters are not alowed to quote Yeshua Ben Joseph as a moral authority without Christian readers taking offense.

No, I don't really believe that, but it's kind of fun to try and pull the whole 'I'm religiously'  offended thing. Especially since I'm part of a majority religiously speaking, and can never play the offended minority without moving elsewhere.

BTW Matis, it pleases me that Jesus' wisdom trancends our religions, rather than only serving as the dividing point that history has claimed we must have. Look at my signature on THR. It works both ways from my perspective.
