Ender's Game movie *Major book spoilers inside*

Ender's Game movie on Wikipedia

I'm not sure how the combination of Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow will work. It is the same timeline, but I'm not confident that they would give Bean's storyline the detail it deserves. The other major aspect I disagree with regarding the screenplay is the decision to reveal to the audience at the beginning what is at stake during the "games."

That said, I'm looking forward to the movie. I do plan on seeing it when it comes out.

Ender's Shadow was very pleasant to read. I enjoyed it every bit as much as the first one and regretted taking years to get to it.

It compliments Ender's Game very well. Since it's been a few years, I'll have to make sure I re-read both before the movie comes out. That said, I have to admit I haven't read any further into the series. I've been meaning to for a while, but just haven't gotten to it yet.

Rosie O'Donnell or Janine Garafalo as Col. Graff?

THAT thought, however momentary, leaves Card zero room to go making critiques of Lucas' direction of Jake Lloyd in Phantom Menace...

Sooo Hollywood still can't come up with original stories?  >:D

That said, I liked those books too, I would pay to watch.  [popcorn]

While I like the idea of Bean getting a bigger role, I am thinking including too many aspects of Ender's Shadow will just complicate a movie that is likely already too complicated.  I think a movie would benefit from a more straightforward story line.

I only ever read Game.

Revealing the stakes at the beginning would be asinine.  Since this is Hollywood, I expect it to occur and for Ender to be played by Perez Hilton.

Despite the temporary idiocy of Rosie or Janine as Graff, the way Card explained that decision actually makes sense.

In the written word, the twist that the fleet simulation "games" were the actual war is hard hitting (although everyone really ought to have guessed, considering how many pages in the book were left, if not just through sheer intuition/deduction). In visual media, where you don't have all that "gravitas" that third person omniscient viewpoint gives you of everyone's hopes, fears, motivations etc. piling on to add to the tension, it's not, it just seems like a cheap contrived McGuffin, it would seem cheap as compared to other great movie twists, like Bruce Willis being dead in "Sixth Sense".

So instead, give it away to the audience so you're not insulted, but instead it adds to the dramatic tension, because Ender doesn't know. Nor do the other kids from the Battle School.

So that I can support, if it's done right.
