Flight Attendant Cited Over Gun
« on: September 24, 2012, 06:37:08 PM »
This actually seems like it might have been handled as reasonably as could be expected. Attendant given a ticket (though I think they should have just given her a warning and made her take her gun home). Police officer sent back to training (though I think there should have been a harsher punishment if you're a cop and you can't safely unload a gun).

Just read the story at Yahoo. Broadly I agree, but more than retraining is warranted if you can't keep your boogerhook out of contact while unloading a S&W wheelgun.

Oh, good, she has a "valid gun permit." I have no idea what that is supposed to mean, but at least it makes us all feel better. ;/

You're supposed to pull the trigger before opening the cylinder, right  ???

Or maybe he was checking to see if it was loaded

Nah... I think that's with a Glock, you need to pull the trigger to disassemble it.  You just have to be careful where the bullet goes . . . . . . .  [tinfoil] [popcorn]

TSA, at your service.  Protecting Amerika from terrierism one tube of toothpaste at a time.

Who would have unloaded that handgun in the old days, before Osama bin Laden won the war against freedom?
I surely can't recall.

Yeah, the real story is the negligence and stupidity of the cop.  Can't unload a Smith revolver without all the noise and smoke?  What a chucklehead.

The cop had probably never seen anything but a Glock  ;/

A police officer, actually.

Yes.  I caught that after my post, and kind of expected someone to point it out.  Mix a lot of pessimistic sarcasm with a little impulsivity and that's the result.

Oh, good, she has a "valid gun permit." I have no idea what that is supposed to mean, but at least it makes us all feel better. ;/

License to Carry Firearm. Necessary for concealed carry in PA. $25 (set by law) for 5 years, no training required and must-issue. Also needed for open carry in Philly.

Philly police are known for not being the most professional police in PA. They are not trusted by our State Police whatsoever. Corruption within their ranks has been a significant problem for the last century. Smedley Butler, probably the most decorated Marine to have ever lived, called it the "toughest battle he'd ever been in" when he was appointed Director of Public Safety for Philly.

i prefer to see that title in this story rather than where a "valid gun permit" holder kills 5 or 6 people in their ex-office or school.

Could be. Or it could be that mythical gun permit that people imagine you need, after watching too many detective shows set in NYC.

Could be. We don't have a permission slip for owning firearms. Private sales are legal too. Except handguns near always require FFL transfer, which is the only bad part of our laws. I believe NY and NJ do have those.
