Heater that looks like a wood fired stove
« on: November 12, 2012, 04:17:09 PM »
Anyone have one of these?

Duraflame makes them, as do several other makers.

They do look quite a bit like a fire going on in a stove, and have an electric heater that can be run independently.

I've been considering getting one for ambiance in my living room given that I'm not going to be getting a pellet stove any time soon, but would like to hear from anyone who has one of these.

This is one place that sells them...

Many different models.

I've had one for years, but I haven't used it since I moved a year and a half ago.  They do have a soothing effect if your lights are dim or off.  Otherwise it's just a standard electric heater.

If you lived close by, I'd just give you mine.  It's sitting in a corner in my basement.

Ditto here...although I use mine a little more. It puts off decent heat and looks ok from a distance. I'd buy it again.

I'm looking at it for more ambiance than heat, although the heat will be nice. Just something for those cold winter evenings to give the illusion that I have the fireplace that I always wanted.

I'm considering getting one of the fireplace grate models for my Mom's fireplace, but it's an odd one. It's a 1903 prefab coal grate, so fitting in something is going to be difficult.
