Good handgun carry belt for cheap
« on: November 20, 2012, 04:08:54 PM »
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Faded-Glory-Men-s-Cordura-Work-Belt/22176487

I was at Wal-Mart the other day buying cat food and happened to find this in the men's clothing accessories section.  It is 1.5 inches wide and made of a stiff plastic material overwrapped with black or brown Cordura nylon.  As a test, I strapped on an OWB holster holding my S&W 659 and a spare magazine.  This combination weights about as much as a boat anchor.  The belt in my Wrangler jeans kept it in place tightly against my right side with no sagging or deformation.  It fits the belt loops both in my jeans and almost all of my dress pants.

The best part is that it cost $ 12.99 at my local store.  I also learned, from reading the hangtag on the Dickies work belts right next to it, that I have been buying my belts too small.  It recommended buying a belt that would close at the middle hole of the tongue.  So for a 36" waist, a 40" belt was recommended.  So I bought the 40' Faded Glory belt and it fits perfectly.  Heavy-duty hardware as well.

No one minded that you tried out the belt with your holster and gun in the Walmart aisle  ???

I kept destroying commercial belts (stitches would come apart, glue would break up, or the thin cheap leather would tear through around the buckles after a while), my friend helped me out by making me one from a 1 3/4" heavy single piece leather strap and a beefy brass buckle both acquired at a saddlery store. Total cost was about $40.

I got my current belt from Simply Rugged.  ($45)

There's no stitching at all - just a couple snaps to hold the buckle.

Oh yeah, he punches seven holes and your ordered size (measure to the hole you are currently using) is the middle hole.

I think I paid 30 for my 5.11 trainers belt about 5 years ago.

Would you mess with a middle-aged bald white guy waving around a S&W 659 in the men's clothing section at Wally-World?  Probably not!   =D

I just got new brown and black Disse belts.  Nice worksmanship, good price for a gunbelt.

Always love the real bargain finds.  Even if it doesn't last "forever", just buy more as needed.  Heck, stock up.

I'll have to check it out. I'm about 5 years overdue for a belt anyway.

I've been wearing the same belt for the last 14 or so years, with a commander size 1911 and spare mag, and wearing it all day, every day. It's $15 or so 1.5" thick leather belt from Target or Walmart. It isn't even deformed, and it's worked just fine.

I'd love to have a dressier belt, but why spend the $$ when this works just fine?

My last belt was over thirty years old.  I got it at a leather shop in Anchorage.

I still use it on my wildland fire pants.
