You have malware on your box.

Yup.  I can assure you, this is not an APS feature or bug, but a problem with your personal computer.  Sorry, I know that's not good news.  =|

Yeah, figgered as much.  Any input on what to look for?  What process might be running that I can kill and backtrack?

Disable and remove the Chrome extension Zoomex if you have it to stop that specific issue.

It probably has its teeth in other things (like Google searches and so forth) and you might need to do more to totally remove it, but I think that's what you're trying to toast.

Also try running a program like Malwarebytes or Spybot: Search & Destroy to get rid of any malware that is hiding in your system.

No Zoomex, but I did unwillingly install wxdownload the other day as I was trying to get a video that someone referred to here.  I used Freemake Video Downloader to get it, and it insisted on installing wxdownload and some toolbars and this and that to "help" the download.  I removed all that crap through Add/Remove programs, but it didn't take out the Chrome extension when I did that.  I just now took out the wxdownload chrome extension and that did it.  It's a bit late to go through Malwarebytes, and Spybot and all, so I'll take my current victory and run the other stuff tomorrow when I'm more alert.

Thanks to all for the exceptional and fast responses.  You're all great.
