remote installation of third party software to Win 7 clients
« on: January 16, 2013, 01:51:34 AM »
Our budget and manpower doesn't allow a complicated, expensive solution.

Here's the deal.

I have a few third party software packages that are a pain to install in my production environment. Group policy is problematic.

A video control that our developers came up with

Adobe products
Java.

I need a good solution for remote installing MSI packages, uninstalling old ones, etc. Im evaluating EMCO Remote Installer and it appears to be pretty good. Just wanted to see what else is out there. We have about 65 workstations.

Please don't post links from google to products you haven't used. I would prefer to hear about things you've used and had success with. I am comfortable scripting things, but my "admins" in detroit are not.

Ugh. this piece of software is not installing. uninstalls are fine, installs are not.

I use SCCM (part of MS server) to push out software/updates/removal.

SCCM is voodoo, hard to explain how we get it to work.

Most assuredly not not not using SCCM

Test deployment was a nightmare. In a project our size, SCCM is more trouble than it's worth.
