First off, I don't care how oblivious you are about current events, you'd have to have been living under a rock for the past ten years to not know realized you shouldn't say something like that, and even then I'd question it.
Second, our country has gotten really really messed up when a kid who says something so thouroghly stupid can ruin his whole life. Teenagers say really stupid stuff. Teenagers do some really stupid stuff. Usually, they do this because they are teenagers and havn't yet gained the wisdom to be less stupid, and at the rate we are going, all this prosocution of just plain youthful stupid is going to have the net results of every teenager doing their college years behind bars.
